Wrap Up

Doubles Event A Success!!!

Our Doubles Event drew in 36 teams; 72 bowlers; paid out $6,596.00; and crowned an Old and New Champion.  It's been several years since we had put on a Doubles Event and this past weekend proved to be a"SUCCESS".

When Verna Rapez checked in at our Doubles tournament, she was excited and a proud mom because of daughter Tyra scoring her second career 300 in Collegiate bowling.  Sidney Remigio was himself, here and ready to bowl.  In fact, Sidney was so in tuned to getting ready that he missed the announcement on participating in the 9 Tap Jackpot.

Marchelle Rubio and James Saballa were in pink matching shirts, as was Brian Pineda and Brandon Panee in blue, Christalynn Bonifacio and Kyle Ortiz in a light blue shirt, as well as Father/Son Duo "The Doane's" (Brennan & Brennan).  Mike Naehu and Grace Toguchi, Tonja Jenkins and Craig Bolling, Jaron Hanzawa and Darrell Agao, Kepa and Kathrine Marks were all in Matching shirts as well.  We could not have forgotten "Our Disco Dancing Buddies, Dancing the BLUES", Nickolas McDuffie and Juan Aponte.  Also, a visit from Puget Sound and former Hawaii member Pearl Sedeno with son, Gabe in the House.  “We simply had a great tournament and fun time”.

Scores were relatively close after game 2, however as teams started to switch lanes, scores after game 3 began to thin out.  Leading out after game 3 were Team 13 (Remigio/Rapez) followed closely by Team 11 (Pall/Asato).

Team 03 (Perreira/Mattos - 1740) were right in the thick of things until Perreira split in frame3 and a cherry in frame 4 although Mattos kept him above board by finishing with a nice 259 and 7th Place.

Team 11 (Pall/Asato - 1749) was in second but things started to unravel and both teammates fell back in the pack, 6th Place.

Team 23 (Ferrari/Gonzales - 1755) a slow start in games 1 & 2 (819) was probably the demise of Robert and Claudia as they caught fire in games 3 & 4 (936) and 5th Place.

Team 33 (Lono/Moniz - 1762) a total collapse in game 3 for both bowlers (Royce 187 - Joenelle 180) proved too much of a loss of pins to make up.  It cost Ft. Shafter Champion Royce Lono a chance to win back to back tournaments, 4th Place

Team 08 (McDuffie/Aponte - 1809) after "Hibernating" in game 1 (368), our "Disco Dancing Buddies" turn the lanes into their dancing floor and nearly pulled off a gamer in games 2, 3 & 4 (1441), 3rd Place.  On a sad note, Juan Aponte is leaving our fair islands and heading back to the mainland.  You will be sorely missed because of your laughter and easy going style.  As we in Hawaii say, your "Aloha Spirit".  Aloha Friend!

Team 05 (Saballa/Rubio - 1847) a great looking team of "Matching Pink" that nearly pulled out a Championship for themselves.  James bowling consistently (988) and partner Shelley (859) above her average, 2nd Place.

Team 13 (Remigio/Rapez - 1903) from the time they entered the Bowling Center, the "Stars Shone Upon Them".  After game 3 totals (1459), it was cruise ship all the way in.  After all, Sidney was the only member to break 1000 (1013) and partner Verna bowling above her average (890), there was no other team to challenge "Team #13", Doubles Champions.

Sidney wins title number 2 and earns a purple shirt.  It has been nearly 7 years since Sid has won a tournament.  Welcome back to the winners circle.  Sidney drills his own equipment and used a Roto Grip Halo for his win.  Verna, owner of The Embroidery Gift Shop and sponsor of the 9 Tap Tour HI used a Radical Rack Attack bowling ball drilled by Wes Flores of Schofield Bowling Pro Shop.  She wins her first 9 Tap Tour title.  Sidney and Verna would like to thank the 9 Tap Tour HI Region Staff for the hospitality and for putting on a "Great Tournament".

Progressive & 9 Tap Jackpot

Our Progressive Pot was not in play this past tournament however the 9 Tap Jackpot took a slight hit with 4 members hitting 3 No Taps.  Each of our members received $50 for their efforts.  The Progressive Pot stands at $1,463.00 and the 9 Tap Jackpot sits at $5,425.00.

The BOY (Bowler of the Year) will end on December 1, 2018 our final quarterly tournament at Ft. Shafter.  It will be the Tour favorite "Best 3 out of 4"tournament with the winner receiving a Storm Ball of Choice.
