Schofield Bowl

Aug 12th, 2017

Total Paid Out: $8,404.00

Wrap Up

The First Team Event of the 9 Tap Tour was a "Huge Success" but Team Event II "has surpassed it by a LANDSLIDE".  The tour paid 1 in 5, having 21 Teams(84 bowlers) with Team Names, paid 4 places with a total payout of $8,404.00.  The payouts went like this; 1st place received $3,000.00; 2nd place $1,500.00; 3rd place $900.00; and 4th place $400.    Hawaii Bowling Supply (HBS) along with Auto Genius were the event sponsorsas it kicked off at 1200 noon with one (1) squad only at Schofield Bowling Center.  Our format for the event was different and a little difficult for some to understand, but all of the teams and bowlers had a great time.  It was a good break from our normal "Beat the Board and Best 3 of 4" formats but still allow our members to win some "Huge Bucks" while having Fun!

And Our Winners were. . . .

The format starting with Round #1:  four game team total plus handicap, the top eight (8) Teams move on to match play;  Round #2:  bracket match play "Baker Style", the four winners move on to the money round;  Round #3:  stepladder match play by seed.  The seed is determined among the remaining four teams by total pinfall from the previous rounds.  The first match Round #3 - 3rd versus 4th;  Round #4:  second match - winner round #3 versus 2nd;  Round #5:  third and championship match - winner round #4 versus 1st;

Round #1 Game #1, began with "9 or Bettah" leading the way followed by "Having Tryouts", "Bowl w/Grace", "Bubba", "The Vegas Crew", "Dirty Money", "Team Kepa" and rounding out the top 8 was "Checkers".

Round #1 Game #2, things start to unravel for some of the leaders and changes are happening as other teams are making a move to the top.  New leader on the scoreboard is "Checkers", moving from #8 to #1, "Having Tryouts", "Dirty Money", "The Vegas Crew", "Shootz", "9 or Bettah", "Bowl w/ Grace" and making it into the top 8 is our 2017 Police and Fire Champions "MH1".

Round #1 Game #3, teams really start to pour on the juice to solidify their position on the leader board.  Another new leader as "The Vegas Crew" steps it up and moves to the top spot followed by, "Shootz", "Dirty Money", "Checkers", "Having Tryouts", "MH1", "Bowl w/ Grace", and "Team Kepa" makes it back onto the leader board.

Round #1 Game #4, "Dirty Money" pours it on and takes over the top spot and into round #2 match play.  Following "Dirty Money" on the leader board were "The Vegas Crew", "Shootz", "Checkers", "Having Tryouts", "Bowl w/Grace",  sneaking in to the top eight was "Attention to Detail", and rounding out the top 8 was "Team Kepa", holding on by 14 pins.  Team "Attention to Detail" was in 21st position after game #1 and made strides after strides to get into round #2 and match play, Outstanding!

Round #2 pitted the top 8 teams in match play with #1 (Dirty Money) vs. #8 (Teem Kepa), #2 (The Vegas Crew) vs. #7 (Bowl w/Grace), #3 (Shootz) vs. #6 (Attention to Detail), and #4 (Checkers) vs. #5 (Having Tryouts).  Matches went like this;  Team Kepa slides by #1 qualifier Dirty Money by 21pins after trailing by 10 pins going into game 2 of Baker Style, pulls off an upset;  The Vegas Crew poured it on early and held on to win by 46 pins;  Shootz take a big 52 pin lead after game 1 but Attention to Detail comes storming back needing to go off the sheet, comes up a little short and loses by 19 pins;  Having Tryouts falls behind by 30 pins but goes bonkers and pulls out a 30 pin win.

Round #3  put Teams seeded #3 (Shootz) and #4 (Team Kepa) against each other with the winner moving on to bowl against the second seed #2 (Having Tryouts).  Shootz starts off with an 11 pin lead, then increased that lead as Team Kepa could not get on track.

Shootz moves on to bowl against Having Tryouts.  Winner of this match will then bowl the top seed #1 The Vegas Crew.  Team Shootz is on a roll as they go out early for a 35 pin lead and held on to win by 24 pins.  Shootz is now in the championship match with The Vegas Crew.

The Championship Match went down to the wire as Shootz had built a slim lead going into the final frame of match play but like "ice in his veins", Kawika Johnson struck out in the 10th frame to pull out a 5 pin win and the Team Event Championship.  After the match play and Championship game, I commented to Kawika about bowling under intense pressure.  His comment back was "look at my hands, still shaking" and we both laughed at the same time.  "The Vegas Crew" made up of Lopaka Chun, Naomi Rose, Lisa Keliikoa and Kawika Johnson would like to say "Thank You to the 9 Tap Tour Family for having something for every bowler to enjoy and have fun".  Congratulations!  Vegas Crew.
