Ft. Shafter

Aug 26th, 2017

Total Paid Out: $6,271.00

Wrap Up

Ft. Shafter  "Best 3 out of 4" . . .

Our 9 Tap tournament returned to action at Ft. Shafter Lanes for the tour favorite format “Best 3 out of 4” and again provided our members with excitement and close scoring.   Ft. Shafter produced 83 entries; 17 cashers; paid out $6,271.00; and another 1st time Champion in Reggie Caneda, earning Reggie  $1,423.00 and a Tour Shirt.

It started early with Charles Cunningham posting the first of three 800 series for the day.  A series posting score of 813, Charles had set the bar a little "High".  Close by was Susan Rosario (796) and Brandon Panee (784).  There were a lot of members still in the mix with the second and third squads yet to bowl.  Cristian Begazo didn't start well but moved to a different pair of lanes,  "caught fire" and posted an 815 series to wrestle the lead away from Charles by 2 pins.

The H-1 traffic prevented a handful of our members from getting to Ft. Shafter to bowl in the 2:30 pm second squad.  Reggie Caneda was disappointed because he wanted to use the second squad to be his"Warm Up" squad.  To top it off,  Reggie wanted to bowl with his friends but there were no room on that pair for him.  So, he opted for the pair of lanes next to them.  Reggie gets out of the starting block quickly, firing games of 286 & 267 moves lanes and has a "HICCUP", with a 249, which is 13 pins short of the lead.  Throws a split in the first frame to start the final game but rights the ship with a 6 bagger and another "HICCUP" split in the 8th frame.  Reggie regains his composure with a couple of head pin strikes and wins (an 843 score).  Reggie says, "the pitcher of beer settled me down as I was calm at the finish".  He thanks Virgil Dela Cruz of Exxxtreme 300 for drilling his bowling equipment and the 9 Tap Tour for putting on the tournament.   Congratulations!  Reggie!

Dan Watts of the Puget Sound Region bowled with us on Saturday and was given a warm Hawaiian Welcome.  A real life story for Dan's visit . . his mother in law passed away recently and was so fond of our fair Islands that she wanted her ashes scattered in our Hawaiian waters outside of Waikiki.

The Year End Championship (YEC) is quickly approaching and with only 6 more tournaments to go, if you want to get invited, members need 6 tournaments to qualify.  The YEC is slated for December 16, 2017 at Schofield Bowling Center.  If you have any questions, please feel free to give me or Frances a call at808 779-6566.  Hope to See You at Schofield for the 3rd Quarter tournament, which will be sponsored by Storm and Exxxtreme 300.
