Tournament Wrap Up

New Champion at Ft. Shafter

Another successful 9 Tap tournament concluded at Ft. Shafter Lanes this past weekend crowning a new Champion.  The scoring was just slightly above the norm and the Title went down to the wire.  We saw lots of BIG games Saturday, but not many bowlers were able to string the big games together.  The Tour’s newest Champion, Michael Lum, had to go the distance, to the last frame, of the last game in the last squad.  Curtis Iha set the tone for the last squad with a nice 4-game total of 1032.  As the last squad got underway, there were a few good games bowled but only a handful that could maintain some kind of consistency to give them a chance at winning the title going into the last game.  As it turned out, Randy Kaea-Cook needed all 12 strikes to finish in a tie with Curtis, finished with a 976 and a tie with Ben Wong.  Ron Loo, our Leeward Champion, had a mathematical chance of surpassing 1032 but errors in the 9th and 10th frames did him in and 5th place.  Kevin Asato threw the front 9 with naturals but a 10th frame miscue had him finishing in 4th place with a 1009.  As with Jason Fujimoto, a 10th frame miss cost him a chance at the top spot.  Our eventual Champion, Mike Lum, needed to strikeout from the 8th frame to beat Curtis and did so to win his first Title.  Mike would like to thank Tricia, Tyler, Randy and Kevin for their support and for pushing him to the finish.

Best “3 out of 4”

May 5, 2012 will be the “Best 3 out of 4” format at Pali Lanes and will make for a nice change of pace for our members.    Vergilio Repollo, Wanda Solano, Alric Kutara, Bob Kailewa, Sonya Baker and a host of other bowlers have made concerted and unsuccessful attempts at hitting the 9 Tap Jackpot only to fall a frame or two short of winning the 9 Tap Jackpot.  That takes the 9 Tap Jackpot to $6,150 and a “winners share of $4,920”.  Our Progre$$ive Pot is at $1,379 and another good share of $$dollars$$ for the next Champion.
