Tournament Wrap Up
“BROKEN” Record Schofield Highlights The highlight of this weekend’s bowling had been all“MATHEMATICAL”, “CALCULATED”, “METHODICAL”, . . . yea, right. Art and I were hoping for a good showing, we had no indication of what was about to happen. What we got was“INSPIRATIONAL” from our dedicated members. Our first squad got things off to a great start as we doubled our entrees from the last tourney and things just started getting busier. Next thing we knew, we were at 55 total entrees after the second squad and only a handful of re-entries, “Wow”! That led to the tour having to record the largest number of entrees (82), paid out $4,449 to its members and a record high in prize money awarded. The 9 Tap Tour, Hawaii is gaining in popularity and we owe the credit to our Members for sharing their enthusiasm with other bowlers, Mahalo. Seniors Rule? Senior bowlers took advantage of the lane conditions and took the top three places. Our new Champion is no “Newbie” to the 9 Tap Tour, joining the Puget Sound Region back in 2007, Raymond Sedeno joins his wife, Pearl, in winning titles in Washington and Hawaii. In ’07, Ray won an ABT (Amateur Bowlers Tour) tournament and this past weekend, our final 9 pin tourney of the year. The scoring was near perfect with only two bowlers breaking the 1000 mark. It wasn’t until the second squad, when new member Francis Baysa posted a 1008 score. Ray entered the third squad, struggled in the first game but then got into a nice rhythm and finished with a flurry. Francis Baysa finished in 2nd place and Ben Agoo (who calls Art and Kawika his mullets . . phff#$% . . a story for another time) took 3rd place with a score of 971. Ray was so excited he won that he called Puget Sound Tour Director Rob Victor. I wonder who was jumping up and down or more excited about the win, long time coming. He thanks Pearl for supporting him and putting up with his “sh…eet”. He also thanks the Tour for his latest Christmas gift of $1061.00. Pearl Sedeno and Larry Martin Jr. both had 4 no taps and shared their winnings. 900 Global BOY The competition was so fierce that the 900 Global Bowler of the Year came down to the final tournament and the last squad. Darrell Salondaka held on by finishing in 11th place to secure the title and win another shirt, this one “Green”. Darrell finished with 88 points, Glenn Egdamin (82), Solomon Chung Jr (79), Randy Kaea-Cook (79) and Kevin Cruce (76) all made valiant attempts only to fall short. Congratulations Darrell for a great year, 3 Titles and Bowler of the Year. Thanks to 900 Global for their great support and sponsorship of our Tour and Bowler of the Year. The Tour’s first tournament of 2012 will be held at Hickam Bowling Center. Our Progressive and 9 Tap Jackpot will be “extra, extra”large. You won’t want to miss this tournament because the payouts will be “extra, extra” large. To our members that have not come for awhile, this might be an incentive to show at Hickam. See You there. |
