Kent Bowl - Kent, WA
April 23rd, 2016
Total Paid Out: $6,294.00
As Saturday at Kent Bowl was our first FOUR Squad Tournament of the year, some people may have mixed up the squad times by either showing up a little late for the 2:00 squad or showing up a little early for the 4:30 squad. Whatever the case, the Tournament came down to the last few frames of the day. With 112 entries, there were 22 bowlers on the Cash List with the 'Cut-Line' dropping steadily throughout the day and winding up at 905. Just the Top 3 managed to break 1000 on a day where humidity was high and (perhaps) had a bearing on slightly lower scores than normal.
The 9-Tap Jackpot had no real threats, which is rare for Kent but Stu Gallagher and Chuck Hufford each managed the front 4 and in doing so, pocketed $100.00 each. As we move on to West Seattle Bowl for another 'Best 3 of 4' Format, the Jackpot rose to just under the $8,000.00 mark.
We want to give well deserved kudos to Vernon 'Skip' Shear, who finished 4th by firing an awesome 979. Skip is a former 'Elite' Division Champ from back in 2013 and was after his first Regular Tour Title. Good bowling, Skip! How about Dan Grass? Mr. 'G' had a monster day which also happened to be his Career best and with just the three bowlers over 1000, all Dan did was break 1000 TWICE with a 1004 then actually improved in the final squad with a 1005! Grass was after his first Title and nearly pulled it off placing 3rd and earning $445.00. Way to go, Dan!
Tour 'Life' Member Larry Tibbetts, Sr recently turned 85 years old andput on a show late in the day nearly pulling off his 1st Career Title. Larry shot an incredible1027 series and if not for a couple of errant shots in his final game, he would have likely earned himself that elusive title. The 2nd Place finish earned Tibbetts $876.00 and he told us earlier in the day that he had a very tough week and was bowling with a heavy heart after losing his dog, Angel a few days ago. Sorry for your loss, Larry and it was great seeing you bowl so well!
Speaking of 80 somethings, we wanted to give a shout out to 80 year old, Hank Olsen from Alaska, who has joined us as well as our Hawaii Region on a couple of occasions. As a matter of fact, Hank had a 2nd Place finish a few weeks back in Hawaii and finished 15th this week.
While we're on the subject of age, How impressive to see some serious Senior representation on the Cash List?
In their 60's - Brad Dubeck (17thT) & Pete Wood (20th)
In their 70's - Vyron Kuver (13th) & Chuck Hufford (17thT)
In their 80's - Larry Tibbetts, Sr (2nd), Hank Olsen (15th), Stu Gallagher (19th) & Leon Bemis (21st)
Bowling on a Re-entry on the pair next to Larry was last week's Champion, Tony Eigenseher...Tony bowled earlier in the day and didn't bowl well at all! He didn't plan on reentering but saw that it was rainingoutside and doesn't like to drive in the rain so opted to give it another go. Well, something obvioulsy clicked for Tony as he started the final squad by shooting back to back 254 scr. games on his way to his 3rd Title (all this year)! Tony is the perfect example of giving bowling everything he has because he tells us that he practices 6 and sometimes 7 days a week. This was Tony's first ever trip to Kent Bowl and he made it a good one, earning himself $1,939.00 and is now over the $6,000.00 mark in Career earnings. Eigenseher thanks his Daughter and Best friend for being on hand to support him. Finally, Tony stated "Thank you 9-Tap Tour Family for treating us all like family!" Way to keep it rolling, Tony!
