Secoma Lanes - Federal Way, WA
May 30th, 2015
Total Paid Out: $8.111.00
With probably the nicest weather so far this year, the Tour returned to Secoma Lanes on Saturday and the turnout was GREAT! There were 130 Total Entries with 26 Bowlers making a very competitive Cash List with the Cut-Line slightly above normal (from previous Secoma visits) at 945. Five bowlers topped the 1000 mark and oddly enough, it was 14 pins separating 2nd Place from 3rd with another 14 pins separating 3rd from 4th and again 14 pins separating 4th from 5th. Will Cotton & Chuck Gonsalez shared the 9-Tap Jackpot Consolation with 4-Taps apiece, earning themselves $50.00each. With that, the Jackpot jumped nicely to $2,652.00 for next week at Skyway Park Bowl. Mark Hitchcock came close to Win #5 with his 1051 series but had to settle for his FOURTH Runner-Up Finish. He also has SIX 3rd's and all of this since joining the Tour in 2011. His $881.00check pushes him $17,204.00 in Career earnings and his 879scratch series earned him an additional $165.00 from the Scratch Pot which, by the way, was a monster $490.00Saturday. Adding to his illustrious 'Hall of Fame' Career, Earl Kleist added another Top 3 Finish to his impressive stats as he threw an impressive 1037 set. Earl is one of only 3 Members in the$40,000.00 Club, adding another $465.00 to the sum. Earl can also boast that he holds the Tour Record for 9-Tap Jackpot earnings. Kleist also took a piece of the Scratch Pot finishing just behind Hitchcock with an 877 scratch series earning himself an additional $80.00. Self proclaimed "Hawaii Boy" Johnny Olim earned his 1st Career Title this week as on a Re-entry after a tough 12:00 Squad, he fired a Personal Best (by 91 pins) 1079 series highlighted by also a PB 264 game. Personal Best(s) are quickly becoming the norm for Johnny as he had just improved his PB series last week at Bowlero Lanes where he was 31 pins better than his previous best. Other than some sporadic 'just for fun' bowling in his younger days in Hawaii, Olim only just started bowling last year and he's improved steadily over the last few months culminating in this, a 'Dream' series for him.
You could say that Johnny hasn't exactly invested much in his bowling equipment as he has been using a ball (an old Storm 'Barbed Wire') and shoes acquired from good friend Kai Pedro's garage. In fact, one of the shoes that he got from Kai was ripped severely to the point where he decided to use Secoma's 'House' shoes this week. Maybe he can work something out with Mike at Secoma to buy those 'house' shoes as they were obviously the right fit and perhaps have some magic in them? Financially, the win comes at a "GREAT TIME" for Olim as he said that he had just started a new job at Southwest Airlines "six days ago" and needed the $1,952.00 to "Pay some bills" while he gets things together. He also said that his son just turned 21 and that he might use some of it on a "Trip to Sin City" with him soon. Johnny wanted to thank his Hawaiian Ohana (Kai, Pearl, Ray, Bronson & Kelsey) and he added that waiting for the final results was "nerve racking" as he actually went home, shaved, then came back and "paced like a father waiting for his wife to give birth" for the last few hours of the day. He credited Margie with calming him down a little bit. CONGRATULATIONS JOHNNY! |
