Secoma Lanes - Federal Way, WA
March 28th/29th, 2015
Total Paid Out: $11,119.00
The 2015 1st Quarter Championship is now History as this weekend at Secoma Lanes a HUGE turnout along with seemingly non-stop action and excitement provided us all some lasting memories...Some of which will live on because, with the help of Jason Victor, we were able to upload video of a couple of our Finals Matches to YouTube! We hope that everyone has some time to go and check it out at this link! (http://youtu.be/7NhdhuZqT7w)
This week's impressive total of 34 Finalists were made up of a very wide range of handicaps from +53 to -8 pins and a mix of everything else in between. The $2,493.00 for 1st and $1,117.00 for 2nd Place are both highs for 2015, as is the $11,119.00 Total paid out for the Tournament. Thanks to 171 Entries, the Progressive Pot remains Awesomely Healthy at $2,498.00, making way for another HUGE Payout next week as we take the ever popular 'Best 3 out of 4' format to West Seattle Bowl.
The 9-Tap Jackpot took a $250.00 hit from James Pippin as he hit the Front 5 taps on Saturday not long after Bruce Gorr had just narrowly missed hitting the 'Middle 7' with an errant 'money shot'. Even though it was hit for $250.00, the Jackpot grew to $7,669.00 for next week in West Seattle.
In the first 10 Tournaments of 2015, we've had SEVEN 1st-Time Champions emerge...This week, however some of The Tour Veteran's RE-emerged and dominated with THIRTEEN previous Champs filling positions in the 'Sweet 16', leaving just 3 spots for Bowlers that haven't yet taken home a Title. By the time we were down to the 'Final 4', the Vets owned ALL FOUR SPOTS!
In the Finals, there were lots of GREAT matches and some that were very close! Worth mentioning was a match between Willie Manning Jr and Magic Bristol where Willie edged Magic 267 to 266! In Willie's very next Match against Joe Fincher Jr, they found themselves in a tie and then between the two bowlers, there was just one errant shot in the 9th & 10th frame 'roll-off' which ended with Joe edging Willie out.
If you haven't had a chance yet, please go back and read the Newsletter which was sent out yesterday regarding this week's overall Top Qualifier,Phil Bevacqua. Phil's story is truly inspirational. For shooting the TOP series of the weekend, amazing 1094 series, Phil earns both the Storm 'Crux Pearl' ball as well as the 'Top Qualifier' Tour Jacket. GREAT WORK Phil!
Saturday's Top Qualifier, Phil Bevacqua
Bruce Gorr & Andy Snow tied for 3rd Place this week, both making the 'Final 4' and earning $454.00 each. Bruce joined the Tour in 2008 and was going for Win #3 while pushing his Career Earnings near the $10,000.00 Club while Andy, who has been on a HOT streak of late, was going for his 2nd Win. Also regarding Andy, he was the only member of the 'Final 4' to qualify for the Finals on his first try this week.
Joe Fincher, Jr., had a wild ride into and through the Bracket Finals, with some really BIG games and that 9th & 10th Frame 'roll-off' with Willie Manning. Joe came REALLY close to his 4th Career Title this week and his $1,117.00 2nd Place check pushed his Career Earnings to $11,481.00.
Winning his 3rd Career Title and 2nd via a Two-Day Tournament Format isJames Strand who just squeaked into the Finals by two pins in the 3rd Squad on Saturday. James seems to be a fan of winning the BIG ones with the week's Hefty $2,493.00, the Tour's Largest Winner's share since January of 2014. It's not the largest for James though as he grabbed a $3,147.00Winner's check for his last win in a record setting tournament back in February of 2013. James boosted his Career Earnings to $16,841.00 while using his Storm 'Crux' ball drilled just this last Friday by Scott at Paradise Bowl. Tour Member and also former Champ from a Secoma Tournament,Tara Strand (James' wife) says that James will use the money he earned this week on a family vacation to Disneyland. Tara herself just missed making the Finals and watched alongside their daughter, Alyssa as James made his way through the bracket and on to victory.
