Paradise Bowl - Parkland, WA
January 17th, 2015
Total Paid Out: $5,289.00
Moderate scoring at the top of the leaderboard, coupled with lots of Big individual games gave quite a few bowlers from all three squads realistic chances to win as the Tour visited Paradise Bowl for the first time in 2015. In all, somewhere around 15 (perhaps more) bowlers had realistic shots at the win and amazingly enough, 5 of the Top 6 on the Cash List this week were actually going for their first titles. A total of 20 bowlers made the Cash List and with 102 Entries, plenty of Tour Members came out to brave a very soggy Saturday in the Puget Sound area. At 753, the Cut-Line was a few pins higher than past Paradise '3 out of 4' Tournaments, but the top scores were actually 20 pins lower. The 9-Tap Jackpot jumped to a lofty $7,320.00 as nobody was able to mount a significant run with just two able to hit the front 3 taps for $50.00 each.
In a tie for 3rd Saturday with impressive 817's were Kerry Keels &Shane Thompson. Keels was the only Top 6 finisher with a previous Title, having won recently last November out at HiJoy Bowl. Kerry also crushed his previous Best game with a 290 which positioned him for a realistic chance at the Top spot. For Thompson, this is the 2nd time since last October at Pacific Lanes in which he has come within 8 pins of his first Title. Shane threw his 2nd Best game ever, a 277 which also had him in the run for the Top spot.
Pete Wood fired his impressive 822 in the 1st Squad and was in line for the Title nearly all day as his score seemed to be holding up nicely. The 3rd Squad progressed seemingly slowly for Pete, who found himself impersonating a father in the maternity ward, pacing all over the place and perhaps, peeking over a shoulders or two at recap sheets? In the end, Pete found himself having been edged out of his first Title by just 3 pins, finishing in 2nd Place, taking home a nice $801.00.
Congratulations go out to our 3rd, 1st-Time Champion already this year,Glenn Moran who fired both his First Tour 300 Game as well as thedays' Best 825! Glenn joined the Tour wayyyyy back in its first year (2002) and has bowled in just a handful of Tournaments every year since 2006, mostly at Paradise. Since '06, his best finishes have been a 6th & 7th, so it's no surprise that for the FIRST TIME, EVER he optedNOT to put anything into the Progressive Pot. This might have been a misfortune for some, but Glenn was extatic with the$1000.00 Winner's check. Incidently, this left $752.00 in carry-over money for next week at HiLine where the Progressive Pot will be at a WHOPPING $2,502.00!!!
The Moran's can easily be considered a 'Bowling Family' as Glenn's wife 'Z' (Siam), has also bowled with the Tour and there are numerous up & coming 'Little Moran's' who we will all likely see bowling in the future, Glenn wanted to give HUGE thanks to his wife, Siam and son, Dhonavyn for encouraging him to bowl this week as he really hadn't planned on it. He also wanted to thank sons Dhontay & Johnathan along with his very good friend, Jeremy for being on hand to root him on. Glenn also said "Happy Birthday to my son, Dhavyn!" With the win, Moran has no big plans except for to share it with his family and maybe pay a few, small bills.
