HiLine Lanes - Burien, WA
October 31st, 2015
Total Paid Out: $8,451.00
As the local weather reports predicted, tons of rain & high winds pounded the Puget Sound area on Friday & Saturday as The Tour spent Halloween 2015 at HiLine Lanes for a 'Best 3 of 4' format. Lots of BIG games were thrown, but it was one of those days when the ability for anyone to put three of those big games together was in short supply. Overall scoring can easily be described as 'Mild' at best as the 'Cut-Line' was just 724 which is on the lower side for a '3 of 4' Tournament. What wasn't in short supply for it being an extremely blustery day was bowlers, as there were 134 Entries with 27 making their way to the Cash List as we returned to our Winter Schedule and just the three squads.
Four bowlers topping the 800 mark is pretty normal, but finishing in such a tight bunch from 800-809 is unusual and well below a typical winning score. What we haven't had in the Tour's existence is someone hitting the 9-Tap Jackpot TWICE...On Saturday, tour mainstay & veteran, RolandJarata, who had previously hit the Jackpot for $5,613.00 at Narrows Plaza Bowl back in March of 2009, got another chance at glory at a similar number ($5,200.00) as he hit the 'front 6' giving himself the 'Golden Shot'...As he stepped up on the approach, he might have been nervous but the nerves were not apparent as he took the shot, after releasing it, the ball crossed over to the left side and he carried a SOLID 'Brooklyn' for a real and SOLID strike. Although, he didn't hit the Jackpot, he did get the awesome consolation of $500.00! The Jackpot still jumped slightly to $6,513.00 and the Progressive Pot jumped as well and sits at $2,119.00 for next week at Skyway Park Bowl.Derek Sutta finished 4th, taking home a $260.00 check this week and was one of the four to topple the 800 mark as he hit it exactly on the number! Nice bowling, Derek!
Ruong Sa Tang shot an impressive 801 series as he was going for his 2nd Title. This was his FIFTH Top Five finish this year as he finished the day was his best game to pull out the 3rd Place Finish and takes $490.00 home with himself. In 2nd Place and no stranger to the Cash List as of late, was James Pippin who is coming off a win just over a month ago! The 2nd Place finish for Pippin was accomplished on a Reentry after struggling on his first entry earlier in the day. Only an untimely open frame in the 10th of his final game stopped him from his 2nd Title as he settles for his SECOND 2nd Place of the year. We hope that the $880.00 check helps ease the pain, James!
Dex DeCastro showed up with his buddies early in the day and did all of the damage in the 1st squad as he fired his 809 and held on for 'Dear Life' for the rest of the day as he earned his 3rd Career Title! This being the first time (when he won) that he invested the full $20.00 in the Progressive Pot and, in doing so, he made his Winner's share into an awesome $1,950.00! With his first Title coming at Bowlero Lanes way back in 2008 followed by another win at Secoma Lanes in 2013, Dex hadn't visited the podium since finishing 2nd at Narrows Plaza back in March of 2014. Dex fired the best game of the day as well as he added to his earnings with a 300 game, winning BOTH the High Scratch game AND series Pots for another $240.00. DeCastro used his Columbia 'LT' ball drilled by Riand Poblete at Majestic Lanes in Mill Creek. Dex plans to celebrate his win with his family and credits his wife, Betsy (& the kids) along with "My Boys, Hubert, Jamie, Billy, John & John". Dex really wanted to pay tribute to his Father, Tom who recently passed away..."I believe that he was looking down on me and gave me the edge I needed." also adding "THIS IS FOR YOU, DAD!" Congratulations, Dex!
