Roxbury Lanes - Seattle, WA
May 31st, 2014
Total Paid Out: $8,433.00
While it was a warm and sunny day outside, there was some sizzling competition inside Roxbury Bowl as The Tour enjoyed a nice turnout with 138 entries and 28 members making the Cash List. A very impressive fivebowlers broke the 800 mark in the always exciting Best '3 out of 4' format with four of them hitting that mark in the Final Squad. Ron Rice, who ultimately finished in 4th Place, opened the day posting a huge 808 then headed back to Yakima and sat on the lead ALL day until a shootout occured in the Final Squad. Kudos go out to Osmond Green who not only finished in 7th Place, he converted an incredibly rare spare known as the 'Greek Church' which is the 4-6-7-9-10 bringing a roar that momentarily got everyone's attention. On the day, the 9-Tap Jackpot was never threatened but 8 bowlers (Kai Pedro, Roland Jarata, Stu Gallagher, Earl Kleist, Bruce Gorr, Josh Danielson, Mike Ducay & Nikki Blase) tied for the consolation with 3-taps each and all of them received $25.00. The 9-Tap Jackpot grew and is now at $2,450.00. The Progressive Pot for next week's visit to Pacific Lanes remains high and is now at $2,762.00.
In the aforementioned Final Squad, several bowlers stepped up to make a run at the title incuding L.C. Cofield who shot an nice & even 800 and finished in 5th Place. Cal Fisher, who later tabbed himself as "The Bridesmaid" threw an 809 and finished 3rd but techincally 'Runner Up' to our eventual Champions. Yes, that's Champions (PLURAL) as TWO bowlers emerged tying with very impressive scores of 818.
Congratulations to Judy Robbins as she has now won back to back Tournaments at Roxbury as she had previously won back in March. In fact, it was just prior to her bowling in the final squad when she wasawarded her Championship Shirt during Rob's pre-squad announcements. Judy joined the Tour back in May of 2011 and this was her 2nd Title. She used her Storm 'Tropical Heat' ball which was drilled by Pat Johns at HiLine Lanes. Judy later said that she had "no clue" that she was in the running for the title but felt the support from everyone on her lanes and also said that her husband and also Tour member, Pat Robbins was at home sick with the flu cheering her on. She wanted to thank the other bowlers on her lanes for "keeping it light & fun" especially in the final game "That was so awesome" she said. With the victory, Judy takes home $1,270.00 which she said will be added to her savings for a planned August trip to Hawaii.
The Tour also congratulates Walt Dalrymple on winning his very first Title! Somewhat ironically, Walt joined the Tour only one week before his Co-Champ, Judy did back in 2011. During his run at the title, Walt had had8 9-taps in his 3rd game only missing taps in the 3rd and 9th frames. Walt used his Hammer 'Cold Blood' ball which was drilled by Ed Dolfay atSkyway Park Bowl. He says this is the first time that he's used this ball. It must be a good one, Walt! Walt also mentioned that this was his best result since finishing 2nd to Stu Gallagher atParadise Bowl back in October of 2011. Walted wanted to thank Osmond Green and Joyce Law for their support and mentioned that Oz "kept me focused". The $1,789.00 pay day will be used to "Pay off last week's trip to Disneyland with my grandkids".
Again a BIG Congratulation to our Co-Champions Judy & Walt!!!
