Kent Bowl - Kent, WA
August 30th/31st, 2014
Total Paid Out: $10,030.00
What a Great Weekend at Kent Bowl! With an awesome turnout of 157 Entries between Saturday & Sunday, 32 Bowlers made their way toSunday's Finals, topping our 2nd Quarter Championship at Secoma Bowl by two Finalists. Scoring was again very balanced and right on the target range all weekend. Saturday's Top Scorer and ultimitely the Top Qualifier for the entire weekend was Matias Oriza with an incredible score of 1068. For thisawesome accomplishment, Matias earns both the Storm 'Optimus' ball as well as the 'Top Qualifier' Tour Jacket. Four of the Tour's Ladies made Sunday's Finals (32) and two of them got into the 'Sweet 16'. In a somewhat ironic twist, the two, Janet Matzelle and Adrienne Summers went head to head in the first round as Adrienne needed her 'A' game to survive in a 274-238 battle. Another 'Sweet 16' match-up worthy of note was Raymond Sedeno and Patrick Dennis where Raymond edged Patrick by ONE pin, 223-222. The 'Elite 8' match-ups were never really in doubt as Mark Hitchcock, Chuck Gonsalez, Bill Jones and Adrienne Summers all moved on to the Final 4. In the Final 4, Hitchcock defeated Gonsalez 233-220 in a close match while Summers fired an incredible 290 to defeat Jones who made her earn it by shooting a very respectable 241.
Finishing tied for 3rd this week were Chuck Gonsalez & Bill Jones, both earning $404.00. The 2-Time previous Champ Gonsalez makes the trip over from Yakima almost every week with his son (Joshua) and this check puts him into the Elite $10,000.00 Club at $10,047.00. This was Jones' first ever Final 4 and best appearance of 2014 because after an impressive 2013, he's suffered through a tough slump for most of this year. Hopefully this performance means that you're back, Bill!
A Very Special THANKS goes out to the sponsorship from Denny's &Miller-Lite!! We had great Prize Fund where the 32 Finalists all had nice paydays and even the low-to-cash earned a $100.00 check. The 9-Tap Jackpot was not threatened but a consolation of $50.00 each goes to Ron Rice and Adrienne Summers who both hit the front-4 taps. The exciting news is that the Jackpotincreased yet again and is back up over the $4,000.00 mark ($4,100.00). The Progressive Pot also grew in size to an even $2,000.00 for next week's Tournament at Roxbury.
This week's Final pitted a focused and motivated Mark Hitchcock against anincredibly HOT bowler, Adrienne Summers. When the dust settled, Summers came out on top, winning 251 to 219.
Finalists Adrienne & Mark 2-time previous champ Mark Hitchcock, earns $867.00 this week and also joins the Elite $10,000.00 Club at $10,187.00. Mark had been off to a very hot start earlier in the year posting FOUR 3rd Place finishes between January & April then cooled off. Apparently, he's getting HOT again, well done, Mark!
Congratulations to Adrienne Summers who is now a 2-Time Tour Champion! Having previously won at Imperial Lanes in May of 2013, Adrienne bowled at a torrid pace this weekend, especially on Sunday when after surviving the 2nd Round in the Finals by ONE pin, she left no doubt who was in charge of the Tournament asin the Finals she averaged an impressive 238 for the six games. Adrienne has been bowling only since 2008, joined the Tour back in 2011 and loves the atmosphere as well as the competition. She used her Storm '2Furious' ball drilled by Bill Hoskinsfrom Right Angle Pro Shop in Kenmore. Adrienne's daughter, Sara was on hand as she qualified on Saturday but she didn't have anyone around on Sunday (she was, however, rooted on by the many in the crowd) but says that her husband and also Tour member, Phil Summers was her encouragment and was in communication with her all day via text. She says that during the Finals, she was "nervous the whole time" and was "literally shaking!" She would like to thank some of her 'lane mates' such as Mark, Irvin, Jan, Bill and a special thanks to Donna Columbo for the support and encouragement! Adrienne said "I absolutely love the 9-Tap Tour" and when asked if she had any hobbies or interests besides bowling she said "Bowling is my Vacation!" Adrienne's only immediate plans for her $1,894.00 Winner's check is to purchase her daughter, Sara a new laptop since she is starting her first year in college on Tuesday. Way to go, Adrienne!!!
