Daffodil Bowl - Puyallup, WA
May 10th, 2014
Total Paid Out: $15,430.00
An absolutely SPECTACULAR turnout for Mom's Day weekend saw the 9-Tap Jackpot get hit, a Record Mom's Pot payout of $500.00, a tremendous battle for the Title and a FIFTH straight 1st-Time Champion! Everything this week was HUGE! The Scratch Pot (High Games & Series) even paid out a whopping $520.00 Saturday. Pam Elliott had quitea memorable beginning to her Mother's Day weekend, not just earning a hefty $4,146.00 for hitting the Jackpot (see video below), but also her best Tour finish in 5th Place, along with a 4th Place in the Mom's Pot. While bowling with husband Dan, Pam left a solid 5-pin on her seventh shot to earn the Bonanza, that she plans to use for building a Kennel for her 4 West Highland Terriers. In the 1st Squad, Pearl Sedeno also had quite a day, shooting the days High Game in the Mom's Pot (278 scr - 306 w/hdcp) for a nice $225.00 + she earned the Mother's Day Mariners Tickets, to go along with her 4th Place finish. The other Mom's Pot winners were Donna Columbo who qualified in two squads finishing 2nd (295 tie-$100) & 5th (284-$25), while Carla Little shared the 2nd place Cash. Impressively, thanks to such a large turnout, the Progressive Pot still managed to grow to a huge $2,775.00, despite the huge payouts.
Finally, Jeff DuRussel made one of his predictions a reality! Jeff has been both very confident and very close for a few years. He did tell me a week ago, that he "Was gonna Win in his home house this week". So far in 2014,Jeff's been Hot, already having FOUR Top 7 finishes before this one. His best previous finish was in another Spectacular Tournament back in 2011, at the old Hooters Bowl. That HUGE 2-Day weekend Tournament had 212 entries, when Jeff met Nelson Sand head-to-head in the Championship match, where they finished tied 222-222 in that Final game. Jeff lost the roll-off, but took home an impressive $1,306.00 2nd Place check that day. This week he got that 'monkey off his back' by coming through when he needed it the most in his last game, collecting an extra large payday of$2,440.00. Jeff plans to do something special for his son's graduation with some of his Winnings. He used his Radical 'Yeti Unleashed', drilled by Daffodil's Matt Surina for his BIG Win. Jeff was one of the early Tour Members, first joining in 2002, but was out of bowling for a number of years, before returning to the Tour in 2011. CONGRATS Jeff for the Breakthrough #1 Win!
In 2nd Place, Paul Bitzer was making a bid for his third career Title. His 1035 series weathered several assaults, until finally succumbing to Jeff's big series. A sweet $1,086.00 runner-up check should help soothe that wound. James Strand was also making a bid for his 3rd Title and ironically, Daffodil was the site of his last Win collecting a GIANT check that day ($3,147.00). This week, his 1029 was worth pretty good 3rd Place money at $569.00. The fierce competition pushed some strong scoring, with an impressive total of FOURTEEN bowlers topping the 1000 mark.
