Secoma Lanes - Federal Way, WA
January 26th, 2013
Total Paid Out: $8,487.00
A tie for the last spot, forced an extra bowler to be added at the bottom of the Cash List and ONE FRAME decided who won the Title at the Top. A heart-breaking pocket 7-10 split in the last frame separated 1st & 2nd Place. At least a half dozen others were well positioned to post huge scores, only to have one game derail their efforts.
The overall scoring couldn't have been more perfect. 5 bowlers topped 1000, 10 topped 980 and a Cut-Line at 916, all numbers that are right on target.
Travis McAllister had quite a day, highlighted by having 'One Ball' for $1,000.00 (7 middle Taps). A large group of his family and friends stopped breathing, while his 7th shot left a 5-9, with a wiggling 9-pin, that wouldn't go down. So, a real strike in the 1st frame cost him the 9-Tap Jackpot and the 9-pin in the 8th frame cost him the Consolation. The beneficiaries of his bad luck, were Nicky Allison and Gary Woldt, whose front 4-Taps took the Consolation, worth $150.00 each. BIG NEWS... The second straight week with the Tournament Winner having $10 in the Progressive Pot, has boosted the already Super-Sized Pot to a staggering $3,097.00. for HiLine Bowl in two weeks.
Secoma Champion Dex DeCastro is a really great story of Perseverance! Dex won his 1st Title at old Bowlero Lanes in 2008 and has gone through some frustrating periods since then. His having the maximum of 5 Bonus Pins, is a confirmation of his struggles. After starting slowly in his first two games (just a few pins above average), he didn't let up, making an adjustment and then finding the magic that he'd been missing, finishing with two spectacular games. Those two games were nearly perfect, shooting scratch 300-266 games, to finish in true superstar style. Quite a way to break-out of a slump! Although he never gave-up, despite his struggles, he did take some family time off after the birth of 6 month old Kitana. Dex made his triumphant return Saturday with the whole family (Betsy, Darius & Kitana) there to cheer him on, including his brother-in-law Chim Saechao, who he bowled with this week. Just the day before, Chim had given Dex the bowling ball that he used to win the Title. Since they both have similar size hands, the Brunswick Scorching Inferno, didn't even need to be redrilled. Riand Poblette did the originaldrilling for Chim at the Majestic Lanes Pro Shop. Dex plans to use the $1,655.00 he won ($10 Pro Pot), to take the family out for a night of fun. In addition, Dex also made an extra $210 from the Scratch Pot. AWESOME Job Dex!!
2012's Rookie-of-the-Year Patrick Dennis, also finished with his two biggest games of the day, until his run was undone by that pocket 7-10 split, leaving him 10 pins short of the Title. An impressive $1,024.00 2nd Place check should help soothe his misfortune. Mariano Cagungon also followed the trend of the day, finishing with his best 2 games. This was his best Tour finish, taking 3rd Place and earning a nice $565.00 for the day. Longtime Tour Veterans, Bob Rouse & Mike Ducay had the other two 1000 scores, finishing in a tie for 4th Place.
