Tournament Wrap Up

The 9-Tap Tour added a new adventure Saturday, when the power went out for about 45 minutes, prior to the first squad.  The power came back just in time for us to almost get started on schedule... Thanks to everyone's patience!  A Fantastic turnout of 144 entries, produced a Cash List of 29 Members and some very nice scoring, with SIX series topping 1000.  Numerous bowlers had shots to win this one in their last game, only to be derailed by an errant shot or two.  Skyway delivered another BIG payday from the 9-Tap Jackpot, when Janet Matzellecame through in the 2nd squad, stringing 7-Taps in the middle of her game to take home$1,000.00.  Her 7th shot needed a dramatic late 'messenger' to take out a 9-pin and save the string.  The BIGGEST NEWS is the Progressive Pot, which SOARS to its highest amount in nearly a year, at a HUGE $3,717.00.  That translates to: Next weeks Winner has a good chance of topping $3,000.00 at Daffodil.  Special THANKS to the 'Fil-Am League' for starting late Saturday to accommodate our Tournament.

Skyway's Champion is a truely GREAT story of Tenacity (stubbornness)!  Nelson Sand won his 2nd Tour Title Saturday, but this one was Extra-Special since he won it while still recoveringfrom his recent major cancer surgery.  He's been getting his strength back, but his endurance is still lacking.  At Imperial last week he started out really Hot, but ran out of gas after two games.  I bowled with him on Friday and he again emptied his tank after a few games.  Just one day later, with the Tournament on the line, his two best games were #3 & #4.  Logically it made perfect sense, under the circumstances, for Nelson to NOT put any money in the Progressive Pot.  But this is a also great example of how 'logic' often doesn't apply... You NEVER know when you're gonna get HOT!  Or in Nelson's case, when you're also going to find the added strength.  When asked what he was going to do with his $1,000.00 in winnings, he said "I'm getting a Massage"!  Nelson bowls League at both Pacific and Skyway.  The Motiv ReCon he used for this win, was drilled for him by Ed Dolfay at the Skyway Park Pro Shop.  Nelson, a retiree from Boeing, asked us to thank his lane mates John, Cal, Carl & Roscoe.  He also wanted to share that he's, "THANKFUL to be back bowling with all his friends on the Tour".  CONGRATS Nelson for Win #2.

ONE MORE STRIKE in the 9th frame, would have been enough to boost Mike Ducay into his 5th Title, and first, in two years.  His 2nd place finish paid an awesome $1,033.00, which boosts his Career earnings to $16,216.00.  In 3rd Place the recently HOTDanny Ramos came close to another win, by throwing 4 solid games, leaving him a mere 14 pins short of the Top Spot.  He takes home a healthy $577.00 for his strong effort.  In a tie for 4th Place, the AMAZING 85 YEAR OLD, Wes Hall Jr came close to an overdue title himself, with a GREAT 1015 series.  Sharing the 4th spot was Jessika Skyles (60+ years younger) who had the lead after the 1st squad.
