Roxbury Bowl - Seattle, WA
September 8th, 2012
Total Paid Out: $7,994.00
We said that we expected, "Good Fun, Good Food & Good Competition" and we got ALL THREE! The 'Fun' part was easy, since our bowlers are consistently a fun & positive group... The 'Food' was great, as always, and the Tour THANKS Roxbury for meal coupons that we awarded in each squad... The 'Competition' was Thrilling, with the Top 3 Places separated by only 9 pins and a number of bowlers who had a chance to Win going into their last game. The scoring was again within an ideal target range, with scores on the Cash List running from 1028 to 925. FIVE times Saturday, bowlers managed to start a game with a mere 3-Taps, which was enough to capture the 9-Tap Jackpot Bonus this week. Each bowler was paid the full $75.00 Consolation, totaling$375.00 paid out, with Mike Ducay cashing-in twice (on separate entries), joined by Mick Thrush, Jim Reppert & Skip Shear. The Jackpot also edged closer to Record heights, by growing to$9,308.00 for next week at Narrows Plaza, which is on pace to again be the #1 Center for Jackpot payouts for the second year in a row.
The Tour's newest 1st Time Champion is Jessie Guerrero, who also came close last week at Daffodil, when he made it to the Quarter Final Match before being edged. That was his first time making a Top 10 finish (5th) and he continued the improvement Saturday climbing to #1. The Win didn't come without a little drama, when Jessie pulled-off what might be considered a miraculous finish. He was in strong position to win the Title, when two late splits in his final game threatened to derail his effort. The 'miracle' was that he picked-up BOTH of those splits, which allowed him to salvage a narrow 5-pin Victory. That miraculous finish made quite a difference on a tight Cash List, where he could have found himself finishing anywhere from 4th to as low as 8th Place. Jesse used his Hammer 'Jet Black Taboo', drilled by Pat Johns at HiLine, to reach his winning score of 1028. He plans to pay some bills with his $2,117.00 Winners share. In addition to also enjoying fishing, his other hobby is lifting weights, which fits nicely with his job at United Gym (10 yrs). Jesse asked us to thank friends Jojo, Tang and Jon, along with all of his fellow Tour bowlers, for their enthusiasm and support. CONGRATS Jesse on Win #1!
The 'Family Affair' came when Alfredo Oriza took the lead with his 1023, but son Aldrin and wife Marielyn (Skyway Co-Champ) entered the next squad, aiming to catch Alfredo. Aldrin came close, finishing within 4-pins, needing one strike in the 10th to both beat his Dad and/or win the Title. Alfredo's score held on for 2nd & a nice $947.00 check, while Aldrin took home a sweet $533.00for 3rd Place. The only other bowler to top 1000 this weekend was Pen Hagen, with a nice 1003. Pen's 4th Place finish was worth some helpful Bowler of the Year points, allowing her to narrow the gap in her quest to catch James Black.
