Narrows Plaza - Seattle, WA
October 6th, 2012
Total Paid Out: $7,000.00
Saturday was potentially the last very nice weather weekend of the year. That may have caused some decline in the turnout, but that didn't dampen the competition, which was wide open and tight all day. The scores at the top and bottom of the Cash List (1019-908) were slightly low and very reachable, making for a great competition. The 9-Tap strings were coming fast and furious, just as we expected, at what has become the 9-Tap Superstore (Narrows). Pen Hagen had 6/7 Taps but a split cost her $1,000.00... Bob Berryman had 6-Taps in-a-row, but ran out of frames. Of course he started the next game with what would have been #7... Wes Puishis had the biggest shot of the day (see video), ONE ball for $1,000.00... it had a good chance, but ended up as an 8-count. The 9-Tap Jackpot Consolation went to both Bob Berryman, who came back in a re-entry stringing the first 4-in-a-row, matched by Dorrie Quirante who also had the first 6/7 Taps, with a REAL strike in the 5th which cost her the WHOLE JACKPOT, leaving each Member to collect $150.00 for their effort. The Jackpot grows to a near record $9,357.00 for Kent Bowl, making it that largest since August 2011 and the 5th largest total EVER!
The 'Surprised' Champion this week, was the very HOT Chuck Gonsalez from Yakima, who also won last week's Satellite Tournament at Mt. Vernon. The first 'surprise' was that he bowled at all... as of Friday night, he wasn't planning on making the trip over the mountains this week. At the last minute, he changed his mind, feeling that he might as well try for a 'regular' Tour Title while he was on a Hot Streak. The bigger 'surprise' was that Chuck thought he shot a 999series, which would have only been good enough for 3rd Place after the 2:00 squad (5th at the end). But, an addition error was discovered on his recap, that after verification, resulted in the corrected score of 1019 and that REALLY surprised him! His 1019 holding-up through the last two squads was his final unexpected but 'pleasant surprise' of the day. His earnings this week amounted to a significant raise over his Satellite payday, taking home a nice $1,927.00 surprise for wife Dee, who didn't make the trip this week. Chuck said that his son Josh, who was at Narrows to cheer him on, would get his piece of the Winnings, the rest would go for birthday trip to the Oregon Coast for Dee's ??th birthday. Chuck's ancient ball (on loan from the Smithsonian), is the same 30+ year old Columbia 300 'ABC Masters Yellow Dot' that he won with last week, which was drilled at Yakima's Nob Hill Bowl, a few generations ago. CONGRATS again Chuck on Win #2 (or is it #1 on the Tour?)! Coming just 10 pins short of his first Tour Title in the 4:30 squad, Pierre Rogers made it close by shooting his Personal Best series by 39 pins. His 1009 total was worth a hefty $871.00 reward. In 3rd Place, Karol Knight was also after her first Title, her 1003 series helped her to the Best Career finish she's had so far. With zero in the Progressive Pot this week, it reduced her potential winnings, but still left her with a nice $383.00 for her effort. Rollie Abella had the only other 1000 series this week, good enough for 4th Place.
