Imperial Lanes - Seattle, WA
July 28th, 2012
Total Paid Out: $7,518.00
A perfect range of scores at the Top of the Cash List (830 to 850) and a slightly lower than average Cut-Line, made for a competitive race that went right down to the wire. The early leaders set an ideal pace, with 837 & 821 scores, which seemed very beatable. Both of those scores held up all day, until the last frame of the last squad, when the only bowler left with a chance, needed ALL THREE STRIKES to pull out a spectacular Win. It also looked like the 9-Tap Jackpot was going to get hammered after a barrage of bowlers in the 1st squad had strings going. Paul Mannhad Six Taps in-a-row in the middle and on the $750.00 7th shot, he was undone by an 8-count (see video). That left the Consolation for TWO of his fellow 1st squad bowlers, Sue Packman & Frank Cochrun, whose 4-Front Taps held up the rest of the day, good for $100.00 each. That allowed the Jackpot to re-grow to a healthy $8,145.00, for next week at Kent Bowl.
FINALLY... James Black earns his 1st Tour Championship! James is a popular Member and has been a regular on the Tour since joining in 2009. During those 3 years he's had PLENTY of successes, including NINETEEN Top 10 finishes, with several of them 2nd & 3rd place results, such as his 2nd Place at Daffodil last month. In addition, he's hit the 7-Middle-Taps for $750.00 and once even had the Front 7-Taps which would have earned him the 9-Tap Jackpot if he'd entered the Pot. With the $1,937.00 for his Win, James is close to reaching the $10,000 Club for his Career. His amazing year already had him leading the 2012 Bowler of the Year standings, without the point boost from winning a Title. We told him that Pen Hagen was quickly 'chasing him down' in the standings and he responded to that challenge in the biggest way possible. He started the day HOT, shooting a 278 and winning the High Game Pot, but tailed off in the next games. He didn't tail off in the final squad, striking out in the 10th for a narrow 8-pin Victory, using his Storm Trauma, drilled by Chad Turner at Majestic Lanes. James has worked at the VA Hospital for 6 years and also enjoys archery in his spare time. He asked us to thank friends Bob Rouse and fellow league bowlers Dorrie Quirante & Rey Alvarez for their support and encouragement. CONGRATS James for win #1!!!
In 2nd Place, Chris Stone was gunning for his first Title with a 837, which lead the pack from the 1st squad all the way to the wire, before being nosed out by James. This was Chris' best finish and biggest payday since joining the Tour in May. His check was limited due to $10 in the Pro Pot, but still a SWEET $687.00. Roland Jarata is another bowler that's being "Chased"... in this case by son Ajay, who after winning his 3rd Title last week, told Dad that he was going to catch him at 5 Titles. Roland's excellent821 was worth a nice $497.00 for 3rd, pushing his Career total to $28,224.00 which includes the largest Jackpot collected to date,$5,613.00. Randy Laed had the only other 800 (803) shot Saturday, good for 4th and Pen Hagen made an effort to catch James but lost ground despite her strong 5th Place finish.
