Daffodil Bowl - Puyallup, WA
June 9th, 2012
Total Paid Out: $8,276.00
Tournament Wrap Up The scores at Daffodil were perfectly within our target range all day, with a 'Cut-Line' of 916 and just a small number of scores above 1000. Newlywed Samson Ibale was well out front with a 1050 that he shot early in the day, looking like that score was going to be plenty to win it. Then, 'Out-of-the-Blue' in the last squad, two bowlers got locked into that famous "Zone", shooting some INCREDIBLE scores, SHATTERING their Personal Bests and running away with the Tournament. That Head-to-Head BATTLE went down to the last frame, ultimately outscoring everyone else in the squad by a HUGE 75 pin margin (details below). The 9-Tap Jackpot got off relatively easy, with three Members each getting the front 4-Taps, with Kim Forrest, Mike Hardy & Earl Kleist taking home $100 each and the Pot growing to $7,747.00 for the Dad's Day Doubles next week.
Two Gladiators had a 'Battle Royale' and near the end of their 4th game, the largest separation was actually the 8 lanes in between them. James Black and Dale Coleman, had staff and spectators running back and forth, mentally crunching the numbers, frame-by-frame. Dale had a healthy lead going into the last game, but James had saved his biggest game (288) for last. The bowlers on Dale's pair were a few frames behind those on James lanes, so weknew what Dale needed to pull out the Win. He DID IT with 15 pins to spare, shooting an AWESOME 1107 for his 2nd Career Title. His scratch score topped his previous best by an Impressive 73 pins. The only explanation for such a Huge score, is that 'Zone' where he literally could not miss. The weapon he used to inflict all that damage, was an AMF 'Mega Friction', drilled by Fred Mattson at the Narrows Plaza Pro Shop. Dale earned a nice $2,091.00 for this Win, saying that he'd hand the money over to his wife Lynette, so she could plan a vacation with it. He works at St. Francis Hospital and does his league bowling at Tower Lanes. He asked us to thank his friendJohn Shaw who bowled with him this week. CONGRATS Dale for earning the RED Champions shirt for #2.
James Black came close to his 1st Title, but this week his 'PB' (by 45 pins) 1092 was only good enough for 2nd Place. James does extend his Bowler of the Year points lead, and the $936.00in winnings does reward his tremendous effort. Falling to 3rd Place with his 1050, which would often be enough to win, wasSamson Ibale who was gunning for his Tour Record 12th Title. The $528.00 he earned Saturday pushed his Career total to$38,218.00 (#2 all-time). Putting him, along with Tong, within reach of becoming the Tour's first $40,000.00 Club Members.
