Sunset Station - Las Vegas, NV
March 12th, 2016
Total Paid Out: $4,993.00
Anticipation was high to break our entry record count at Sunset Station, little did we know that multiple records would be broken when the day was over. Thanks to a communication breakdown, we had our first experience with what the Tour looks like using a 'House Shot'. By the end of the day, we shattered scoring records Tour wide (not just in LV). Similar situations have occurred in both he Puget Sound and Hawaii Regions, but both Regions NEVER had TWELVE bowlers topping 1100 or a record FIFTEEN bowlers who topped 1000, without making the 'Cash List'! Saturday's 'Cut Line' of 1067 also bested the previous record of 1054, held by the Hawaii Region. Those are some staggering numbers, but every time we've had a 'Scoring Frenzy' in the other Regions, it's always been an exciting competition. That was certainly the case Saturday, as the BIG scores got BIGGER in every squad and the Champion wasn't decided until the last frame, of the last game, of the day.
The day started off slow with only 18 entries in the first squad, however, once the second squad got underway with a record 41 entries, it was looking likely that we may set a new Tournament record! The last squad did not disappoint, pushing the entry total hit a new high of 93, plus we had an impressive 19 more New Members! With the higher entry numbers, came a longer and more bountiful 'Cash List'. A tie for the last spot on the 'Cash List', even added one extra (20th) bowler to the list. Kevin Oas is our newest LV Tour Champion. He bowled in the last squad and like most of the other bowlers, he thrived on the conditions. Kevin gotoff to a slow start, but got more into the 'Groove' as he went, improving his scores with every game. He pocketed a 'COOL' $1,478.00 for his awesome performance! A long-time avid golfer, he only recently took-up bowling. After just six months of practice and some helpful coaching from friend Jason Rhoads, Kevin is showing signs of mastering his new sport. Since joining the Tour in February, he's had 4 Tournament entries. None of those previous entries showed any indication of the Masterful performance he produced this week. You just never know when you're going to get HOT! Bowling with a Storm 30th Anniversary IQ, drilled by Matt Freiberg over at Red Rock Lanes, Kevin shared with us that he felt a full range of emotions while posting his winning score. Excitement, nervousness, a sense of calm, lucky, being in a zone, were all applicable to him that day. Cheered on by his friends Lynne, Brian, and Jason (coach), Kevin was thankful for the opportunity to compete on the 9-Tap Tour and plans to pay down some bills with his winnings! Congratulations Kevin on your first Championship Title! Leon Pitcher, like many others this week, shot his 'Personal Best'. His HUGE 1140 series upped his Best by an impressive 149 pins. Leon shot well in his first entry, but with the scores so high, he decided to try to improve his total. Boy did he ever! Falling just 14 pins short of Kevin's gem and holding on for 2nd Place, he still had an impressive payday, a very nice $681.00. Finishing out the Top 3, with an equally spectacular 1138 series, was Renee Olis. She frustratingly came up just TWO pins short of Leon's BIG score. With $10 in the Progressive Pot, Renee's payday was limited to $287.00, leaving some extra to carryover for next week's Pot. |
