Crazy 8s keeps getting bigger! With 12 Members stepping up at a chance to “win their way in” to the 12 Noon Squad and 7 of those Members making it to the finals, it took 8 rounds of elimination to get to a Final 3: Donald Jones, Al Slivka and Ron McGinnis. Donald made his first shot count forcing Al and/or Ron to get 8 or better to keep the contest going. Both of them came up short, so Donald got a $60 entry. Since there was enough money in the pot to award a partial entry for 2nd place, Al and Ron bowled again to decide the 2nd place winner. This time Al would get the best of Ron and take a $43.00 credit toward his first entry of the day. Thanks to all our contestants in the Crazy 8s event. If you want more information about Crazy 8s and how to "win your way in", there is more info in the FYI section of today's newsletter. Now on to the tournamant recap.......... Rolling into the Silver Nugget for our popular Best '3 out of 4' format this past Sunday, the Tour had 7 Members on the 'Cash List' with the cut number being a very achievable 765. Kenneth Fowler tapped on the 9-Tap Jackpot this weekend with his 4 taps earning him a nice $100.00, rolling over $3,095.00 to next week at The Orleans. Kenny also wins a LasVegasAdvisor.com Members Rewards book valued at over $3500.00. The staff at Silver Nugget continues its promotion of the 9-Tap Tour by donating (1) $15 voucher for each of our 3 squads to the Hometown Cafeinside the casino. The voucher goes to the first bowler to record 4 consecutive No-Tap strikes anywhere in the game. If no taps, the prize goes to the squad leader. Ken Fowler, Donald Jones and John Bustamantewere all this event's winners. Every pin counts in tournament play. A low count on a spare or an open frame can cost you. On the other side, lucky breaks can get you the win or bump you into that last cashing spot. Cashing for his first time on the tour, Derrick Chan made this one count as he becomes the 9-Tap Tour’s newest champion! Opening up with a 298 scratch game, Derrick put together two more solid games in the first squad to give him an 821 for 3 games and pocket a nice check for $973.00 just edging it out by a single pin!Donald Jones was on pace to overtake the high score but came up just shy with an 820 3 game series for 2nd place and $435.00 for his piggy bank. 2-time champ Ken James would take the 3rd spot with a 788 series and $255.00.Other cashers were Alex Watanabe, Dale Savage, John Bustamante and Leon Pitcher. We would also like to welcome our 4 newest members Angie Johnson, Jesse Greer, Wanda and Phil Baker, welcome to the Tour! Congratulations to the Top 3 this week, Well Done! Derrick Chan of Las Vegas has been bowling for about 16 years. He joined the tour back in January in our 2nd Tour stop. He significantly improvedupon his previous best finish of 21st place yesterday. For the better part of the day, Derrick used his Storm Code Black drilled up by Keith Boyd at K&K at Gold Coastwhere he bowls in both of his leagues. Derrick is a 2nd grade teacher in the Clark County school district and I could tell by his big smile that he really enjoys the work that he does with the kids. He told me that his winnings will be put toward a vacation in the near future. He also wants to thank his parents and younger sister for supporting and rooting him on while bowling. He mentioned that he got some lucky carries in the first game and made some last minute adjustments in games 3 and 4. When not bowling, Derrick enjoys keeping busy by snowboarding, playing kickball and doing volunteer work. Derrick would like to give thanks to the 9-Tap tour staff for having these events. Thanks Derrick and congratulations on your first Tour Title! |
