Wrap Up
TWO Tour Hall-of-Fame SUPER Seniors (75 & 77) led the way Saturday, one earned the Title, one achieved a Jackpot FIRST!!  Returning to Skyway Bowl, a house that recently has produced scores higher than what we like to see, well above the 'Goldilocks Zone'.  We decided that we'd make a huge adjustment to the oil pattern hoping to insure lower scores, by shortening up the pattern several feet.  Boy-Oh-Boy were we wrong!!  We actually created a bigger problem with the shorter pattern, by exposing more of the house shot that was either insufficiently stripped or that was soaked into the lane surface.  Many bowlers commented that the 'back-end' was still acting like the House Shot.  So, next April when we return, we'll go to the other extreme, when we run a 'LONG-OIL SPECIAL', which is a format that we haven't used for several years.  There will be NO House Shot like back-ends at that event!!  100 entries this weekend produced 20 places on the 'Cash List'.  With this score fest, low to cash was at an incredible 1023 series, with 6 bowlers over 1000 that sadly did not make the Cash List.  There were many that shot their Personal Best scores this weekend, and a couple of bowlers who shot their first No-Tap 300 game.  There were also many bowlers who were working on 300 games, but came up short in the 10th frame.
Ciara Cumberlander shot her Personal Best series of 1055 and her first N/T 300, along with Adam Hamlet who also shot his Personal Best series of 1125 and his first N/T 300 game.  Both boosted their high series by 100 pins or more, which is huge bump.  The 9-TAP JACKPOT stood at a whopping  $8,837.00 coming into this weekend, so we offered our 'INSTANT $10.00' for the front 2-TAPS.  24 different bowlers cashed in for at least $10.00, with Earl Kleist collecting the most (4 times), with a total of an extra $320.00 paid-out.  Going into the 3rd squad, we had a 4 bowlers tied with the front 4 Taps... what happened next was HISTORIC! Our Champion this week is a HOF'er and now a TEN time CHAMPIONRoland Jarata.  Using his Storm Hyroad and Phaze TwoRoland just blistered the lanes, firing an awesome 1201 series.  Roland re-entered after shooting a nice 940 series in squad #1, but he took it to a rarely achieved level after he got lined-up.  A Skyway bowler for many years, Roland not only shot a 300 3rd game, but came back impressively with a near perfect 298 final game.  We told the bowlers that no score was unreachable Saturday and Roland proved it.  Adam Hamlet had posted a monster 1125 in the 1st squad looking pretty tough to beat.  Roland SMASHED Adams total in the 2nd squad, showing that nothing is insurmountable.  With all the BIG scores, this put a huge target on his back, as he knew he was still in jeopardy of being knocked off.  Roland says he likes to bowl, as he bowls three times a week.  He would like to say thanks to his son Ajay, along with Vu Nguyen and Will Beleford for their support.  He says its been awhile since he's won, but it was just last year that he won his 9th title.  He liked the fact that he is in the Winners Circle again and showing the youngsters the way!  Roland takes home a sweet check of $1,910.00, which pushes his Career Prize Money total to $47,766.00, retaking #4 on the All-Time list.

Skyway Bowl Champion Roland Jarata

2nd Place goes to another hard luck kid, Adam Hamlet.  Adam joined the Tour back in 2016 and went into a long streak of not cashing.  But after returning from the Covid pause, Adam has really been improving his game and has become a regular on the Cash List.  After finishing in 4th Place last week,  Adam not only shot his Personal Best series of 1125, he shot his very first N/T 300 game.  Keep up the great bowling Adam, your first Title is very close.  Adam took home a nice check of $864.00 .

Trying for his FIRST Tour Title and with two previous 2nd place finishes, Vu Nguyen finished in 3rd Place this week.  Tossing a very nice 1107 series, Vu stayed very consistent for all of his 4 game set.  Its been awhile since Vu has been on the Cash List, but he broke through in a big way this weekend, with a great score.  His third place finish gets him nice check of $406.00.  Great job Vu, your series would have won any where else.

9-Tap Jackpot - Hit or Not Hit?
Earl Kleist IS the 'King' of the 9-Tap Jackpot... having earned the most CAREER dollars... had the BIGGEST ever payout... the most JACKPOTS hit.  Saturday he added another first to his list... the first Jackpot to be decided by a REPLAY!!

Saturday, after Earl tossed the Front-5 Taps in the last squad, on shot #6 the 4-pin was left standing temporarily, the 'Replay' confirmed as the rack was coming down, the pin fell backwards.  It was nearly impossible to tell whether the pin was touched by the rack.  Out of fairness to both Earl & to the Tour Members, we spent HOURS after the Tournament doing further investigating, enlarging the pics, reviewing the video frame-by-frame and taking measurements inside the machine.  Although the evidence leaned toward it being a real strike, none of the Staff involved felt 100% confident or sure.

The Tour has no financial interest in the Jackpot, since it belongs to all of the Tour Members.  To be fair to both Earl and to the Tour Members, we offered Earl a compromise.  Harold, Rob, and we hope the whole Tour, would like the express our appreciation to Earl for his Graciousness!  He not only accepted the compromise offer, but commented how he was happy to see the Pot remain large for every one on the Tour.  Since we couldn't positively say YES or NO to the ultimate decision, we hope that everyone agrees that this was the best solution to a difficult situation!  We hope it doesn't happen again for another 20 years!!!
