Wrap Up

Our Memorial Weekend 2nd Quarter Championship at Secoma Lanes made for an amazing weekend.  A huge 206 entries, with a fantastic 42 players in the finals, made this the BIGGEST Tour event in many years.  All the bowlers who made it into the finals were guaranteed a check, with a low-to-cash of $100.00. The bowling was extremely competitive with a lot of great scores.  The Top QualifierRolando Liscano, shot a whopping 1051 to earn the #1 Seed and the TOP Qualifier jacket.  Roly wasn't planning to return to try again on Sunday, after being frustrated on Saturday, he changed his mind at the last minute, then Lit-It-Up!  Saturday's Top Qualifier, Dale Coleman, earned a new STORM Bowling Ball of his choice, by shooting a huge 1034 series, making him also the #2 Seed.  The 42 Finalists covered the whole spectrum of Tour Members, as there were veteran HOF'ers, multiple time winners, many trying for their first championship and even new Tour Members.  The first two Rounds used our Monster Finals format, with the lowest 13 scores getting eliminated in each round, reducing the field to 16 bowlers for the Head-to-Head Brackets.  Scoring was very close during Qualifying, with EVERY bowler reaching 900 making it to the Finals.  The competitive scoring carried over to the Finals, with numerous BIG games and we even had a tie in one Head-to-Head match, that led to a 9th/10th Roll-Off.

Elite 8 - L-R - Matt Fleming, Will Twyman,    Final 4 - Will Twyman,

Mitch Lomax, Dale Coleman, Thang Thai,     Mitch  Lomax, James Black

Peter Novak, Andrew Scalf, James Black      Peter Novak

Championship round - Peter Novak - James Black

The 9-Tap Jackpot got off easy this weekend... Mitch Lomax came close to hitting the Front-7 with only one natural in his run of 7.  At the days end, Andrew Scalf and Greg Burdsall both tied with the Front-4 Taps, splitting the $100.00 Consolation.  This now boosts the 9-Tap Jackpot to a huge $3,809.00 for next week.

NOTE: This weeks winner had $10 in the Progressive Pot, pushing the pot to its highest level in over two years. a MAMMOTH $3,070.00, which will make Bowlero-Lynnwood a "Don't Miss" Tournament.

This weeks winner is a first-time ChampionPeter Novak.  Peter is a 74 year old Air Force Veteran, who served in Vietman in 1969, making his Win on Memorial Day weekend especially poignant.  Not only was he extra proud of Winning this particular weekend, it seemed that the 'Bowling Gods' were with him along the way, as everyone watching can attest!  Late in his extremely tight Semi-Final Match with Mitch LomaxPeter left a 4-7-10 split that suddenly became a strike thanks to a late 'messenger'... but his 'angels' weren't done yet, two frames later, another 7-count was transformed into a strike by another late messenger.  Those witnessing that game had a sense of seeing 'destiny' unfolding.  Using his Motive Venom, drilled by Robert Kelly at Secoma LanesPeter was red hot through Qualifying and carried it through to sweeping the Finals.  Qualifying with a great 996 series, Peter cruised through all of his SIX Finals games, with his closest match being the Semi-Final with Mitch 192 to 170.  This might be Peters last tournament for a while (though he hopes to bowl next weekend), as he's scheduled to have a heart monitor installed on Thursday.  We hope all goes well and a speedy recovery.  With his 1st Place winnings of $1,767.00 ($10 in P.Pot), he has plans with wife Wendy, to take an Alaska trip for their GOLDEN Wedding Anniversary, coming up in July.  Peter would like to thank Greg Burdsall, who by the way is his son-in-law, for his friendship, support and advise.  Now Peter can say that he's joined Greg and twin Eddie Burdsall in the Tour's Winners Circle.

2nd Quarter Champion - Peter Novak

Second place  goes to a Multi-Time Champion and Tour Hall of Fame member, James Black.  Firing a blistering 1014 qualifying score, James looked unstoppable this weekend.  He defeated his opponents by a average of 50 pins in the BracketsJames just couldn't over come the even hotter Peter Novak.  James takes home a huge 2nd Place check of $1,054.00

Finishing in a tie for 3rd was Mitch Lomax and Will Twyman.  Mitch Lomax, who just joined the Tour in April, has barely made the Cash List at every event he has bowled, which is very unusual.  Saturday he barely missed Qualifying, but came back on Sunday and got in the nicest 'groove' of his short career.  This by far is his highest payday and best scoring, firing a nice 979 series to Qualify, he made it to the Final Four, but without some very close matches during the Final 16.  Earlier this month Will Twyman captured his first Tour Title and was close again this week going for his second.  Will fired a nice 983 series on Saturday's last squad to take the Top Spot earning a 1st Round bye.  Will's only downfall this weekend was in his Final 4 match, where he was up against a very hot James Black.  Both Mitch and Will took home a fine 3rd Place check of $413.00 for their efforts.
