Secoma Lanes
July 20th, 2019

Total Paid Out: $7,947.00

Wrap Up

There was plenty of excitement at Secoma Laneson Saturday with several new members joining the tour, including three making HUGE splashes onto the scene, one winning the tournament, another hitting the 'Front 5' taps for the consolation and still another winning a new Storm ball! There were 132 entries with 28 on the cash list as we added two extra spots due to a tie at the 890 Cut-Line!

Let's start with the winner...Emily Gustafson, who showed up with a bowler we hadn't seen in a long time, Ed Haskins. The couple didn't mess around with her earning her first title and him finishing 3rd! When Emily checked in, she had forgotten her glasses and had a hard time filling out the membership application with some anxiety about even being able to see her mark to bowl. Apparently, this made her focus even more as she put together what Ed described as "The best I have ever seen her bowl." Her 1062 series made her the first Tour bowler to win on the first try sinceJenna Dee (formerly Thompson) did it over three years ago! The JBLM (Madigan) retiree used herStorm 'Tropical Surge' ball drilled up byRobert Kelley at Secoma's Peter Somoff Pro Shop while wearing her Dexter shoes. With Gustafson finishing 1st and Haskins in 3rd, both with just $10 invested in the Progressive Pot, the pot grew to a monstrous $2,590.00 as we head toHiLine Lanes next week where a fully invested winner will take home nearly $2,300.00! More on Emily below.

It was at Hi Joy Bowl exactly one year ago to the day (7/21) when Brett Schaaf got down on oneknee to propose to his then girlfriend, Heather. After she said "Yes", he fired off an 819 in a 'Best 3 of 4' format, then they left to actually get married, returning a couple of hours later to find out that he had won the title! We couldn't have scripted that any better and we're happy to congratulate them on their 1st wedding anniversary. Wait, there's more! Saturday at Secoma, Heather nearly pulled off an identical storyline as she was at 790 heading into her final game, making Emily very nervous...Heather came up a little short in the end, finishing 2nd for $916.00. Great bowling, Heather!

Also in his first tourney, Jesse Sherman made his presence known as he hit the 'Front 5' 9 taps to take the $375.00 consolation prize. The Jackpot continues to grow and now sits at $8,800.00.

Stan Tappe had eight no-taps and nearly hit the 'Middle 7' for $750.00, we attempted get video of his 7th shot which wound up a little high for a split, but Steve failed to hit the record button. Sorry Stan! Check out his game below.

Robert Kelley in the Peter Somoff Pro Shop was extremely generous Saturday, giving us two bowling balls and two backpacks to give away.  We opted to do a drawing for this with Pearl Sedeno& another first timer, Hayden Hwang getting the balls while Zac Clute & Madeline Coughlinscored the backpacks!  Congrats and a HUGEThank You to Robert & Peter!

Hayden, Pearl, Madelin & Zac with the loot!

Back to to our winner, Emily...she earned $1,520.00 and says she'll use it for multiple things, such as entering more tournaments, bringing food & gifts to the South Park Asian Pacific Cultural Center. Emily added a huge thanks to her boyfriend, Ed who bought her bowling ball for her and said it would be good luck. She also said thanks to her new friend, "Legend Tong!" Congratulations!
