Wrap Up

As the Tour bidded farewell to Pacific Lanes on Saturday, we were happy to see some faces that we hadn't seen in quite some time and we soaked in some of the history of the Tacoma staple which has been in operation for 60+ years. Although it is sad to see them close, we thank them for their hospitality and for what they've done for our game and the Tour over the years.

An INCREDIBLE FIFTEEN Tour members with Pacific Lanes wins participated this week, Leon Bemis wore his Champion shirt from '04, Earl Kleist brought his Champion plaque from his '03 title in what was the Tour's first ever tournament there and he also won there in '05. Another Champ from '05, Gary Woldt  has been a Pacific regular league bowler for a long time.  Reuben Pedrowon title #1 at Pacific last year along with Ashley Kochel in our Dad's Day Doubles Tourney. Shaun Firestone won his first title there in January of '18. Dan Watts has TWO wins there, including his first in '16 and another in '18.  John Sisavath was our winner at Pacific, also his first last December.  Pearl Sedeno won Dad's Day Doubles with Patrick Dennis back in '15. Samson Ibale won there two times, one '08 and another in '17.  Bob Rouse won there in '17, the front side of back to back wins for him!  We don't stop there as Martin McElroy was winner at Pacific in April of '18.  Andy Snow won his first of four titles there in '15.  Joe Trinka picked up his first win there in '18.  Mike Metcalf was another first time winner at Pacific in '17.

This week was a 'Best 3 of 4' format and Travis Dill got things started by firing three very strong games for a 765 which included him hitting the front five 9-taps which wound up being top for the day, earning him an extra $250.00. Travis actually held the lead through two squads and even though history told us that the winner would likely be over 800, we were starting to think that his score would hold up...

Breyon Heath was top shooter in the 2nd squad with a 754, ultimately finishing 6th but as the final squad progressed, bowlers like Jordan Pangelinan, Earl Kleist, Ashley Kochel, Reuben Pedro, Dan Elliott, Samson Ibale & John Moore, Jr. all put their respective "A" games together to make runs at Dill's top score.  Earl's 742 was short of his 1st squad 747 as he finished 7th while Ashley was on her game with 254 & 258 games to start, but couldn't get that big game in her final two as she settled for a 10th place tie with Jeremy Heishman.  Jordan was visibly frustrated after he wrapped up his day in 8th, as he knew that with a big final game, he might have gotten in postion for his first win. Dan & Reuben were on the same pair together and unbeknownced to them, were in a battle for 3rd place as Dan finished with a 272 game to Reuben's 254 which resulted in Dan taking 3rd by ONE pin!

The battle for the title also wound up being on the pair with John Moore, Jr. & Samson Ibale. Samson shot 236-300-264 (scr.) while John went 257-263-276 to take the title with his 823 w/hdcp.

A few weeks ago when John finished in 3rd atSecoma, we mentioned that he said "I'm gonna win this thing one of these days!" Well, John did just what he said he was going to do on Saturday and get this...he had already bowled EIGHT games earlier in the day out at HiJoy Bowl in Port Orchard. After leaving there, he called ahead to say that he was running late and barely made it in time to bowl.  He said that he was pretty tired from bowling earlier but that helped him, he said "Being tired was the difference, I was not too fast."  John joins his son, John Moore III as 1st-time Tour Champ as he earned $2,092.00 and said that it was all going in the bank.  John is a local construction worker and said that besides bowling, he enjoys golfing when he can.  It was great to see John's excitement and true sportsmanship and we congratulate you Sir!
