Total Paid Out: $6,761.00
We'll start by talking about the Red Hot L.C. Cofield because thisweekend in our 3rd Quarter Championship at Narrows Plaza, he was on a mission and seemed to be unstoppable! On Saturday, L.C. posted an unreachable 1120 series to qualify for Sunday's Finals. Not only did he earn the Storm bowling ball of his choice, he also was the Top Qualifier for the entire weekend and gets the highly coveted 'Top Qualifier' Jacket! Did L.C. close the deal on Sunday? You'll have to read on to find out... Front Six & Middle Seven HIT! Over the years, Narrows has been a hotbed for the 9-Tap Jackpot and Saturday during qualifying it was very apparent that this wasn't about to change...First, Thang Thai had the GOLDEN SHOT for the Jackpot after hitting the Front Six 9-taps. . A little bit later, L.C. Cofield hit the 'Middle - 7' The two will share the $500.00 prize! The Well Earned BYE's Great Shooting from L.C. Cofield (1120), Randy Kaea-Cook (1041), Donnie Roberts (1019), Dan Grass (1046) & Brian Peters (1013) earned them all Bye's into the 2nd round of the Finals on Sunday. The Battle to The Finals, Kawika's Ohana 'In The House' With 29 Bowlers making the Finals we first had to chop the field down to the 'Sweet 16' for the Bracket Finals. First, 24 bowlers (without the Bye's) bowled a game where the Top 17 continued on to the 2nd round, we added in the five Bye's and those 22 shot a game where six more were eliminated to get us to the 16 Bracket Finalists. The Round of 16 was highlighted by the Tom Melberg~Kawika Kaea match where Tom was outnumbered by Kawika's Ohana (family). Perhaps unaware of Kawika's fan club, Tom got it done with a 232-220 win to move on. Below is a snapshot of Kawika's Ohana and a quick shout out to 9-Tap Tour Hawaii's Kawika, Frances and their family who are all in town this week for a visit. Kawika's Ohana Kawika & Frances As we went to the 'Elite Eight' Melberg continued his hot hand, ending Cofield's great weekend while James Butler edged out Bill Jones to move on. The other two matches were battles to the end as Cal Fisher's 296-247 win over Huyen Thai was the Finals' highest scoring match and the Pete Wood/Patrick Dennis match came down to the last frame as Wood scored a 249-238 win. The Final Four pitted Fisher against Wood where Cal was simply in the zone and seemed unstoppable, shooting 262 against a very respectable 240. In the other match, Butler dominated, shooting 278 to end Melberg's impressive run. The Championship Match was also very close and came down to the last frame where Butler needed to strike out to top Fisher. James did strike on the first ball, but his second shot was just a little off as Cal took the Title by just seven pins 238-231. Butler was still very happy as he had his best finish on the Tour, earning $851.00. |
