Tournament Wrap Up

HAPPY FATHERS DAY!  We got our wish at Roxbury this week, as family pairings took the Top 3 Places, with a Couple in 1st, a Mother & Daughter in 2nd, a Husband & Wife team in 3rd and another Couple in 5th.  Despite many very good individual scores, there was a shortage of big Doubles scores on the board, as few teammates seemed to both get hot at the same time.  Friday and Saturday were warmer and more humid than usual, which appeared to have had an effect on the lane conditions.  It ONLY required an 870 the make the Cash List and since we had a three-way tie at 870, it also caused us to add an extra spot to the list.  ELEVEN Members took advantage of the 'Multi-Cash' opportunity, led by Earl Kleist who cashed 5-times and Rey AlvarezOsmond Green & Samson Ibale, 3-times each.  We didn't quite reach the Doubles record set at last years Dad's Day Doubles, but 160 bowlers combined to create 128 Doubles teams Saturday.  An impressive $515.00 was paid out in the Dad's Day High Game Pot (w/hdcp).  Aaron Brooks captured the biggest share of $257.00, thanks to his nice 290 game, with last years Dad's Pot Winner Mick Thrush taking second ($129.00/287),Wayne Liddy 3rd ($77.00/276), and Terrence Alford 4th ($52.00/272). The 9-Tap Jackpot got off easy this week, with only one Member, Tong Nguyen, managing to string 4 Taps earning the $100 Bonus.  That allowed the Pot to bounce back to$8,205.00 for the Narrows Plaza 'Best 3 of 4' next week.

First time Champions Duan 'Pen' Hagen and Wayne Liddy took the lead in the 3pm squad and hung on for a narrow 2-pin victory at Roxbury.  Ironically, Pen & Wayne captured the very Last Spot on the Cash List in the January Doubles Tournament.  Nice improvement, jumping all the way from the bottom of the list to the Top.  Pen & Wayne have become popular Members of the Tour since joining 18 months ago.  Wayne said that at first, Penwasn't sure she was going to bowl the Doubles, then she was talking of bowling with friend LeRoy Cofield, but ultimately made all the right choices.  Wayne used one of our Sponsors balls, a 900 Global 'Raw Profit', to shoot a nice 490 for his two games, drilled by our 'Elite Tour' Manager Dave Hanson at Pacific Lanes.  While Pen used her Hammer 'Taboo' for her 444, drilled by Matt Pettinger at Sounder Lanes.  When asked what they'd do with the $1,465.00 winners share, Wayne said that he'd, "Take Pen out to dinner, with the 10% she'd let him have".  While Pen said she'd, "Take Wayne shopping (?)"... after sending some money home to Mom in Thailand.  Pen also shared in another $294.00 for her 4th Place with Dorrie Quirante, while Wayne got $77.00 from the Dad's HG Pot.  Pen is a 'Zumba' instructor for Curves and Wayne has told me that he can't keep up with her. Wayne is retired military (24 years), with 12 years served while assigned to the Pentagon, currently working for Pierce County Superior Court.  CONGRATS to both, for Win #1!

Shooting a 932 in the 12:00 squad, and coming within 2-pins of having it hold-up for their 1st Win, were LeAnn Gunderson and her daughter Janet Doyle.  This is LeAnn's second 2nd Place finish this year, matching the finish she had at HiLine in January.  Both were very enthusiastic with their finish and the$732.00 they shared.  In a TRUE 'Family Affair', veteran Tour Members Emma & Roland Jarata not only finished in 3rd Place ($442.00), but along with son Ajay, ALL THREE Cashed 2 times each, with Ajay Cashing once with Mom & once with Dad.
