Tournament Wrap Up Scores climbed, LONG slumps ended, & several Personal Bests were set Saturday at Roxbury! We even had TWO 80+ year-olds in the Top 10, Larry Tibbetts Sr in 4th & Wess Hall Jr in 10th. Everyone was surprised by the scoring leap, since we used the same oil pattern that we've used on our last three Roxbury visits. But, the Cut-Line still jumped to 950 this week, from previous cuts of 924 & 917. The higher scores still allowed for a very tight competition, with 27 scores packed between 950 & 1015. A few spectacular scores by the Top Finishers, did separate them from the rest of the pack. For the second straight week, we had a tie for the last spot, creating an extra spot on the Cash List, paying 30 spots. The 9-Tap Jackpot was under a HEAVY ASSAULT as expected, but in a different way this week. By the time we reached the last game of the last squad, we had TEN bowlers tied with just 3-Taps, which would have resulted in ALL 10 of them getting the $75 Bonus. Up steps Hall-of-Famer Earl Kleist, at the last minute, to break through the logjam with a fourth and then a fifth Tap to take home the $375.00 Consolation. Thanks to Earl, the Jackpot grew, while the Progressive Pot also increased by a healthy amount for next weeks 'Best 3 of 4' at Narrows Plaza.
One of several slumps finally came to an end Saturday, whenMholee Divina ended a five year absence from the Winner's Circle. Mholee's 3rd Career Championship and this hefty$2,121.00 payday, pushed his Career Earnings to an impressive$17,884.00. During the 5 years since his last Title (March 2007), Mholee has had TWENTY Top 10 Finishes, with 9 of them in the Top 5. Most impressive of these stats, is that FOUR of those Top 10's were 2nd Place finishes. Mholee shot a solid 930 in his first entry Saturday, but his fourth game left him short of the Cut-Line. So he re-entered and this time posted 4 STRONG games to set a Personal Best with a GREAT 1099 series. For his Record setting performance, he used a Hammer 'Red Pearl' Urethane ball, drilled by Ed Dolfay at Skyway Park Bowl. Mholee is one of many Boeing employees on the Tour and he does his bowling at Skyway in the Skyscrapers League. He asked us to thank all of Members he bowled with, for their support and encouragement, which he said gave him the Confidence he needed. Welcome back to the Winner's Circle Mholee!!
Also breaking out of a slump Saturday, was Jon Schneider, with his highest finish since his last Win in 2010. His 2nd Place finish and $724.00 payday ($10 Pro.Pot), pushed his Career Earnings to a sweet $16,356.00. Mac Brown has NOT been in a slump, recently finishing in 2nd Place at the Year-End Championship. His impressive score of 1030 would have been a winning score in many Tournaments, but the nice $534.00 in 3rd Place money was still a healthy consolation. In 4th Place, 80 year old Larry Tibbetts had the lead after the first squad with an outstanding 1015. His breakout from a long slump and the smile on his face were a welcome sight for all of us! CONGRATULATIONS toJeff Sumabat who returned to the Tour after a nearly a year away (13th Place) and during that period he not only got married... they're now expecting their first child.
