Tournament Wrap Up

The scoring was just slightly below the norm, but the Title came down to a mere THREE PINS.  We saw lots of BIG games Saturday, but not many bowlers were able to string several big games together.  The nice turnout of 136 entries, generated a Cash List of 27 Members.  Amazingly, all 27 Cashers fell within just 100 pins of each other and we can't remember when or if that's ever happened before... we know it hasn't happened recently.  Then in the 2nd squad, Sun Kimgot a string of the FRONT 6-Taps going, with ONE shot in the 7th for $6,518.00(80% of Pot).  How many times do you get to throw ONE BALL for that much money?  Sun threw a beautiful shot and when the ball was halfway down the lane, several voices were heard to say, "She's got it".  Unfortunately she didn't carry the 5-7, leaving her one pin short of a Bonanza.  The $750.00 Sun collected was a sweet Consolation nonetheless.  Now, we have a GIANT Progressive Pot of $3,340.00 for Imperial Lanes, which will make next week a very interesting contest.

Our Paradise Bowl Champion, Bob Matlock, earned his 2nd Career Tour Title Saturday with a solid 817.  Both of his wins have come at 'Best 3 of 4' format Tournaments.  Bob joined the Tour in 2008, winning his 1st Title in July of that year, at Bowlero Lanes.  This one didn't come easy, with Bob leaving a washout in the 10th frame of his final game.  Picking-up that washout was the difference between finishing in 1st or 2nd Place, since he only won by THREE pins.  In his 3rd game, Bob had another first, when he shot a 300 game (9-Tap) for the first time since joining the Tour.  But, Bob didn't have that "Feeling" that he was going to bowl well Saturday, so he decided that he'd skip the Progressive Pot this week, which he's done every once in a while when he doesn't think he was bowling well.  We've seen proof of the adage, "You NEVER know when you're gonna get Hot", many times before.  Bob certainly did get Hot, when he least expected to.  He was still very happy to win the $1,000.00 in Prize Money and commented that he'd probably be next weeks Winner's instant 'Best Friend', with all the money they'll probably win.  The Winnings should be enough to cover the set of new tires that Bob wants to buy.  He usually bowls in the 1st squad, often with friend Gary Woldt, but they had their signals crossed Saturday and didn't get to bowl together, so Bob said to tell Gary thanks anyway.  CONGRATS BOB on Win #2!!

Pen Hagen had her best finish taking 2nd Place and earned a nice$974.00 for her 814.  She's done very well on the Tour and is a popular as well as fun person to bowl with.  But now she really has is out for Bob, pointing out that he also bumped her out of the Bracket Finals last January at Daffodil.  She said "Next Time"!!  In 3rd Place, shooting the only other 800 of the day (807), was the recently turned 81 year old, Larry Tibbetts Sr.  Larry finished with his two biggest games, making a huge comeback from a shaky start, for a well earned $557.00 payday.
