Kent Bowl- Seattle, WA
August 4th, 2012

Total Paid Out: $8,256.00

Bob

Wrap Up
Kent Bowl didn't disappoint, providing plenty of action and drama Saturday.  On an extra hot day, the air conditioning got a little overwhelmed in the afternoon, but that didn't slow the competition.  We had 950+ scores coming from every squad, but only 3 scores over 1000 all day. The Top 2 scores of the day both came in the 1st Squad, both breaking slumps and both having to sweat-it-out the WHOLE DAY to see if the scores would hang on.  The Cash List had a nice balance of high, middle & low Handicaps, to go with an ideal Cut-Line of 918 for the day.  Just like last week, one bowler (this time Curt Sanborn) had a shot for $750.00, with 6-Taps in-a-row in the middle of his 4th game, but the 7th shot got away.  That left the door open for 3 Members to take the Consolation with the front 4-Taps.  Cliff Silliman (Port Angeles), Sam Crook & Gary Van Ness each took advantage of that opening to take home $100.00 each.  That allowed the 9-Tap Jackpot to increase and the Progressive Pot also got bigger for next week at HiLine.

It's always fun to have a 1st-Time Champion and that's always magnified when we have a REALLY excited Champion.  Our Kent Champ Cindy 'High Voltage' Watts was so EXCITED (electrified), that it only requires one look at her pictures to see for yourself.  Cindy's 2nd year on the Tour has really been a struggle, so it's even more gratifying to see her re-affirm the proverb that, "You never know when it's going to be your day!"  Her 5 Bonus Pins confirm her recent struggles, but she was even more frustrated by the 99 that she shot at Secoma in her last Tournament.  What a turn-around on Saturday, when she got HOT in game #1 topping her highest ever game by 55 pins(284), coupling that with her 2nd highest career game (234) in the 2nd game, to BLOW AWAY the field, winning by 47 pins.  Way to Persevere Cindy!  She used her Storm Nano, drilled by Dan Sanchez at Kent Bowl and asked us to pass her thanks to Dan for helping her to improve her game.  An 83 pin improvement over her previous high series is pretty impressive, earning her a sweet$2,021.00 payday.  In addition to paying bills, Cindy hopes to use some of her loot for a trip back to Kansas.  Cindy bowls League at both Secoma & Kent, passing her Thanks to the Kent staff for cheering her on.  CONGRATS Cindy on Win #1.

Also breaking out of a Slump was Leon Bemis in 2nd Place, earning $704.00 ($10 Pro Pot).  A Tour Hall of Famer, Leon has had only one 16th Place finish in his last 15 Tournaments.  Kent proved to be a great venue for breaking out of slumps this week and Leon's profound statement was saying, "FINALLY"!  In 3rd Place, Bob Blakeslee also had a breakthrough day.  He even had a shot at 1st, needing to finish with a giant game to pull it out.  His 1001 earned him $494.00, for his best finish of 2012.  Recent Tour newcomers Cliff Silliman & Sam Crook added to their Jackpot earnings, by finishing in 4th & 5th Places.
