In 2010 we had only FOUR Tournaments that topped $10,000.00 Paid-Out. This week at Roxbury, we had our FIFTH Straight +$10,000.00 Tourney, finishing at $11,178.00. Our string of Record Turnouts ended at six, but the 165 entries on Saturday was still impressive and it represented the 3rd largest 1-Day Tournament ever. We made a small adjustment to the Oil-Pattern, hoping to give the scores a small boost over the low scores we had previously at Roxbury. The small 'tweak' made a HUGE difference, resulting in some BIG scores at the Top, but a 'Cut-Line' (766) only slightly above normal. Again a TIE for the last spot, had us paying one extra position, leaving us with 34 Members on the Cash List. The higher scores continued all afternoon and in the last squad, at least 4 Members had a shot to take over the lead, with a BIG last game. The ONSLAUGHT of the 9-Tap Jackpot was relentless all-day. Wes Puishis had a run at the Middle 7-Taps early, then newcomer Angella McNeil came close when she had 6 In-A-Row. Dorrie Quirante, AGAIN, got a string going with just enough room left at the end of the game to squeeze in SEVEN Taps. When she got to Six in-a-row, the crowd started growing just like it did the week before. Her 7th shot just got a tiny piece of the headpin, and this time the last pin stood, giving her the Jackpot Consolation worth a nice $1,000.00 and a total HAUL of $1,750.00 in the last two weeks. Thanks to the big turnout, the Jackpot still remains at a healthy $9,009.00, for Secoma next week.
Randy Laed is our Roxbury Champion, returning to the Winner's Circle for his 2nd Career Title, after a LONG dry spell. Randy has been a Tour regular since he joined in 2003, which is also the year he set a Record that still stands today. In the early years of the Tour, the Progressive Pot operated differently, only paying out to 1st Place. So, in 2003 after a few weeks of Winners not getting in the Pot, the WHOLE Pot carried over, ballooning to staggering heights. Randy stepped-up the next week at Kent Bowl, and with 80% of the Pot going to the Champ, he took home the largest 1st Place check ever. This week's Winner's share was well above normal, at $2,712.00, but it paled by comparison to the FREAKISH $7,324.00 he brought home from Kent that week. The amount was so much larger than anything paid-out before or since, Randy made a very generous gesture, donating $1,000.00 back as Added-Money for the next Tournament. This week's check pushes Randy's Career Earnings to just short of joining the $15,000.00 Earners Club. Randy's spectacular scores are another example what happens when you get HOT and you NEVER know when that will be. After all his years bowling 9-Tap, Randy's huge 882 included the FIRST 300 he's ever shot on the Tour. He said that he did get a little nervous in the last game, knowing that he needed one more BIG score to take the lead. He used his Martial Arts training to help himself calm down and focus, which obviously worked. His ball was a Columbia 300 'Beast', that was drilled for him by Keith Boyd at Paradise Village. Randy often bowls with his dad Rudy and mom Liza and sisters Nat & Rhodie are also 'Life' Tour Members. Saturday he had Liz and son Rethyn there to support his winning effort. Randy works at the UW Medical Center and enjoys Tae-Kwon-Do as a hobby. Welcome Back to the Winner's Circle Randy!!
Ganny Angeles shot his Best Ever scores, with what many thought was an unbeatable 861 in the first squad. His best finish was worth a nice 2nd Place share of $1,195.00. John Sisavath has been on quite a 'Hot Streak' lately, with a 2nd Place finish at HiLine and now a 3rd Place at Roxbury, that boosts him into the Top 10 on the B.O.Y. standings. Both Ganny and John, were seeking their first Tour Titles. A healthy $662.00 for 3rd should tide John over till that Title materializes. We've had a VERY LARGE number of new Members over the last few months and it was exciting to see some of those new faces on the Cash List this week. CONGRATS & Thanks to all... Hope to see you all at Secoma!
