Tournament Wrap Up

A beautiful weekend and some GREAT competition were nice conditions for bidding farewell to Bowlero Lanes.  74 Sunday entries pushed the weekend total to 174 entries, creating a total payout of $12,144.00.  More strong scoring on Sunday produced 5 more qualifiers with scores over 1000, led by Michelle Scheitzach who shot a huge 1087.  Those 5 1000'scombined with 9 more shot on Saturday, including the monster Top Qualifying Score turned in byLouis Catiller of 1125, earning him the Hammer Taboo and a Tour Jacket.  We had talked about how poetic it would be to close out our history at Bowlero with the Jackpot being hit... it almost happened!  The 9-Tap Jackpot BARELY survived, when Dorrie Quirante came ONE-PIN short on her 7th shot.  It was the 3rd time this year that she's put together long strings of Taps, prompting us to temporarily change the Pot's name to the DORRIEpot.  In the Bracket Finals there were several incredible matches, but none tighter than the Final Four match betweenJames Strand & Paul Marcello, that ended 264-262.  When we got down to the Final Eight bowlers, 7 were seeking the 1st Tour Title, with Paul being the only prior Champ in the group.  THANKS to our Sponsors,South Tacoma Honda, 1st Citizens Bank and Hammer, for supporting this extra Special weekend!

Kent Stockton won his first Tour Title with 'Style and Flair'!  Only twice in Tour history, has a Championship Match in the Bracket Finals, ended with a 300 game as it did on Sunday.  The first time was when Leon Bemis (Tour Hall of Famer) did it at Acme Lanes in 2008.  Kent joined the Tour way back in 2003, competing in a handful of Tournaments every year since.  His best previous finish was a 2nd Place at HiLine in March2010.  The unique part of Kent's story this weekend, was that he didn't plan on bowling in the Tournament.  After spending most of his summer weekends camping with his family and not picking up a ball for the last few months, he came down to Bowlero to throw a few practice games.  He wasn't throwing the ball too badly, considering the months of 'rust', so he decided, "What the heck", entering the last squad on Saturday.  He shot a nice 1021 to qualify, despite his -5 pins handicap and then survived some close matches in the Finals that could have gone either way.  He wasn't sure what he'd do with his $2,306.00 winners share.  Kent used his Track 'Threat' that was drilled at the Secoma Pro Shop for his win.  Now that Bowlero is closing, he'll be bowling in the Draft League that's moving to Paradise.  He sent his thanks to friends Paul Marcello, Rob Richards and Louis Catiller for rooting him on in the Finals.  When not working as a carpenter for Howard Wright Construction or bowling, he also enjoys his toys (jet skiing, motorcycles and cars).

In 2nd Place, James Strand easily topped his previous best finish (19th).  He qualified with a 1004 and nearly ran the table in the Bracket Finals, collecting a healthy $1,042.00 for his effort.  Tied for 3rd Place was Michelle Scheitzach and Paul Marcello, who both had a nice run through the Finals until being derailed in the Semi-final.  They split the 3rd Place Progressive Pot money, leaving each earning a tidy $496.00.

Next week the Tour will return to Kenmore Lanes for the first time in SEVEN years.  Hope to see ya there!
