Bowlero Lanes - Lakewood, WA July 23rd, 2011
Total Paid Out: $10,150.00
Tournament Wrap Up
What a beautiful warm summer day Saturday! So warm, that the Air Conditioning unit on our end of the House seized-up in mid afternoon. As the temperature rose inside, it made the lane conditions a bit squirrelly, but we continued to have nice scores turned in right to the end of the day. An excellent and fair range of scores, for a 'Best 3 of 4' format, included a HUGE number of ties. Just as it's been so many times this year, one of those ties was for the Last Spot, again putting an extra Member on the Cash List. 37 Cashed, with each skill level of bowler, well represented. The BIG NEWS is that the Winner only had $10 in the Progressive Pot, so it makes a big jump to $2,989.00 for next week at HiLine. We paid-out $300 from the 9-Tap Jackpot this week, which seems like nothing compared to what we've been paying out lately. Bob Blakeslee & Fred Walker each happily collected $150 for their 4-Taps. FINALLY! Ed Arneson enters the Winner's Circle!! Ed was an originalMember of the Tour in 2002, as evidenced by his Membership #24. There have been lots of Cashes and several Close Calls along the way. While he anxiously hoped that his 1st Squad score would hold up, lots of Members were pulling for him as an obvious sentimental favorite. What had been a 'Monkey-on-his-Back', had grown to a Gorilla, then all the way to 'King Kong'! Ed truly loves the Tour, has enjoyed the competition, the camaraderie and the friendships over the years. His best quote after the Tournament was, "Thanks for keeping the Tour around long enough for me to win one". Talk about setting a Personal Best and getting "In the Zone", his854 total easily outdistanced his nearest competitor (41 pins) and just as easily topped his best string of games in his long Tour history. If you want to know how much this win meant to Ed... when I asked him which was a bigger deal, the $1,611.00 check or the Champions Shirt, he didn't hesitate. He said, "THE SHIRT"! After seeing all those other Champions Shirts for all these years, now he's FINALLY gonna have one of his own! Ed used his new Storm 'Nano', drilled by Pat Johns at HiLine for the win, He asked us to thank his partner Cindy and friends David Sisler & Don Moseng for their support and to give them a cryptic message of "Have fun in Redmond". This Title is further proof that you can teach an 'Old Dog (or gorilla) New Tricks'. CONGRATS ED on a well earned #1!
Another Senior bowler Manny Avila, was one more big game short of his 1st Title. His 813 was good for a sweet $959.00 payday. With a strong showing in the last squad, Rich Eaton almost pulled out a 2nd place. His 810 was good for 3rd and $509.00, plus Rich went home with an extra$250.00 that he collected from the Scratch Pot.
