A nice turnout of 125 bowlers created a nicely balanced Cash List, made-up of 8 Members under 10 pins of hdcp and 9 Members with more than 25 pins. The adjustment to the oil pattern had it's desired effect Saturday. We actually added TWO feet to the pattern we used on our last visit, and the scores rose perfectly. The 741 Cut-Line at Tower, matched the our last two "Best 3 of 4" Tournaments at other Centers, which were 740 (August) and 737 (June). We also saw some "Myth Busting" this weekend. Myth #1 - Lefties have often claimed that Tower Lanes has not been a good house for them... Several lefties made the Cash List including the Champion. Myth #2 - Lanes 1 & 2 are tough lanes... Most of the biggest scores came on that pair Saturday (2 of the days 4 300's) & last Monday, in my scratch league, an 803 was shot on that pair. Bowlers were stringing 9-Taps in every squad, THREE were tied with 4 Taps, until Paul Marcello topped that with 5 in the last squad, for a $250.00 Consolation Bonus. The Pot still grew to $6,470.00, which remains the 2nd largest Pot in Tour history. The Progressive Pot also took a nice jump to $1,946.00, which should make for a nice payday for some Members next week.
Our Tower "Best 3 of 4" Champion is Chris Pierce, earning his 2nd career victory. In addition to a healthy $1,834.00 in prize money, he also wins a new HAMMER "Jigsaw Trap". Just last month, HAMMER Inc. offered 9-Tap Tour Members a new ball to anyone winning while using a Hammer as their primary ball. Chris won the Tournament, using his HAMMER "Emerald Vibe", drilled by Pat Johns at HiLine Lanes, which is also where he bowls in two leagues. His great 827, 3-game total, was accompanied by a very nice fourth game, dropping a 236 (w/hdcp) as his low game. Both of Chris' Tour victories have come in "Best 3 of 4" format events, matching Rollie Abella who also won his first two Tournaments in this format, back in 2008. Chris often bowls in Tour events with his wife Heidi, but this weekend, his Dad (Dennis) and Brother (Eric) were there to cheer him on. The last time that Chris won a new ball as a Top Qualifier, his wife Heidi actually got the new ball. This time, Chris said he's going to get the new ball drilled for himself and he's using some of the winnings for a new bag for the ball. Chris said his other favorite hobby is playing poker. CONGRATS Chris on win #2!
In 2nd Place, Paul Bitzer had his best finish since joining the Tour this summer. Not putting anything into the Pro. Pot cost him some cash, but he was still pretty excited about his $500.00 runner-up check for his excellent 815 score. In 3rd Place, was Kenny Tameno, who always seems to do well at Tower, having won 2 titles there. His 797 was good for a nice $462.00 payday this time. |
