A strong turnout of 115 entries on Saturday, saw a day full of oddities. One odd result, was the 3-Way Tie for the last spot on the 'Cash List', causing a 24th spot being added to the list. The "New' conditions at Tower Lanes proved to be a mystery all day. That made the low scores on the standings teasingly tempting for everyone in the later squads. Dozens of Members were within reach of the Top spots all afternoon, but the early scores held up until the end. We normally see large runs of 9-Taps at Tower Lanes. Not this week, as it just took 3 Taps to share the Consolation Bonus. It was done SIX times, twice each by Mick O'Connor & Earl Kleist and once by Dorrie Quirante and Bob Rouse.
Our Tower Champ is 1st Time Winner Moon-Kyu Chang. Moon struggled in the 1st squad, but was improving each game. He re-entered in the 2nd squad and improved all the way to a 989 series, which held up for the win. Moon is a newcomer to the Tour, bowling league at Secoma Lanes, with friends Chang Kim and Young Lee, who bowled with him Saturday. Moon is obviously a supporter of our sponsors, using a Hammer ball, drilled by Corey Gardner at Secoma. Corey is one of the "South Sound Proshops" that now supports the Tour. Moon was pleasantly surprised by the win... so surprised that he hadn't entered the Progressive Pot, which left $690.00 to carry over, jumping the Pot to a huge $2,216.00. He was excited about $1,000.00 winners share and I'm sure he'll be excited about the Champion's Shirt that goes with it. Moon owns a convenience store and also enjoys participating at golf, baseball and poker. CONGRATULATIONS Moon on your 1st Title!
In 2nd place, Mick O'Connor overcame a bad 1st game, coming back to nearly capture his 1st Title. This was his third 2nd place finish, this one worth $776.00. In 3rd place, Cecil Abay-Abay also had a shot at the win, needing a big game to pull it out. His 959 was good enough for a $418.00 payday.
NEW WRINKLE for the EQC: Invitations for next weekends EQC Championship will go out Monday or Tuesday. On Saturday we're going to use a slightly different format, which we have never used before. We will still have 1 in 4 entries qualify for the Finals, but each squad will qualify it's own finalists. At the end of each Saturday squad, you will know if you have earned a spot in the Finals. Example: If there are 25 bowlers in the 12:00 squad, the Top SIX will earn guaranteed spots in the Bracket Finals. The strategy will be, which squad will be the best opportunity to reach the Finals? We think that the early squad bowlers will especially appreciate not getting nosed-out by scores in the later squads. This change will NOT apply to Sunday, where the 11:00 & 1:00 squads will still have the scores combined to determine the qualifiers.
