With the nice weather and ALL the varied activities going on around the Sound this weekend, we had a FANTASTIC, and somewhat surprising, turnout of 128 Entries. The scoring was just slightly lower than our previous two visits to Paradise, but the competition was intense. I mentioned in the mid-week email that 3 to 5 scores over 1000 is ideal... We had 4 over 1000 on Saturday. The lower numbers were actually the 'Cut Score', which dipped to 888, which is unusual for Paradise. One of the unique stories Saturday was Steve Shine, who had a streak of SIX straight Cashes on the line. After struggling in the 4:30 squad, he came back in the last squad with a great 1010 series to extend his streak to SEVEN. We don't know if that's a record, but if it's not, it's got to be close. Next week at Hooters Bowl should be a BIG Tournament and the 9-Tap Jackpot got even bigger to go with it, now at $5,674.00.
Apparently, it was Louis Catiller Day at Paradise Village. Louis FINALLY won his 1st Championship, but that wasn't enough. He also took the 9-Tap Jackpot Consolation, with 5 No-Taps, for an extra $250. PLUS, he snatched another $260 from the Scratch Pot and $77 from the High Game Pots (hdcp), to supplement his $1,872.00 for winning the title. I'd have to say that qualifies as "His Day"! Bowling with his mom, Georgette, in the first two squads, she showed him the way with, at the time, a Top 5 score of her own. Louis had shot some very nice games in his first two tries, but just couldn't put 4 good ones together. He refused to give-up, determined to have that one great set, which he did with a huge 1081. That determination is a reflection of the last few years. Louis originally joined the 9-Tap Tour in 2005, but had his bowling interrupted by a bad knee. Since his knee replacement surgery 18 months ago, he's been working hard to re-hab the knee and re-hab his bowling. I personally enjoyed seeing his pride, for having 'Climbed the Mountain' and it had to feel pretty great to finally 'Reach the Peak'! His ball of choice was a Columbia 'Hi Rev' drilled by Tour sponsor Cory Gardner at Secoma Lanes. He asked us to share his thanks to both his fiancé Gina and mom Georgette for their support, and Scott Halverson for all his help with his game. CONGRATULATIONS Louis for a hard earned win #1!!
Several Members took a run at the Top Score in the final squad. Jason Hummell came the closest, by shooting his personal best series, a very nice 1060, good for 2nd Place and an $849.00 payday. Jason's moving to Florida after next weeks Tournament to pursue his Pro Wrestling career. We wish him all the best! Tong Nguyen finished in 3rd Place, after having held the lead after the 2:00 squad. Tong was pacing back and forth like an expectant father, while he waited to see if his best score in months (1013), would hold up. He was still happy to pick-up the $474.00 check, along with some valuable Bowler of the year points.
