WOW... What an unusual weekend! The turnout was a little lighter than expected (115 entries = 23 Finalists), but those in attendance were even more enthusiastic than our normally upbeat group. The scores were just little higher than normal for Narrows. But, what was unusual about the scores, was the way they bounced up and down from squad to squad. The "Qualify by Squad" format on Saturday, benefited many of our bowlers, but a few got the 'short-end-of-the-stick' due to score swings by a large number of bowlers cracking 1000 in one squad, which left Fred Walker (1007) and Christina Miller (1004), short of making the cut. But, Christina took another shot at it in the very next squad, and made the Finals anyway. Another unusual twist was for the second straight week, the most 9-Taps anyone managed was just THREE. Last week 5 Members had three, and this week only 3 Members (Christina Miller-Mike Kravitz-Jon Schneider). Each pocketed $50 from the Consolation Bonus, leaving the 9-Tap Jackpot growing to new heights at $7,292.00. Mick Hodge earned the Hammer "Plague" and the Top Qualifier Jacket for his sweet Saturday score of 1076, narrowly holding off Nelson Sand's big 1074.
The 'Deja-Vu' took place in the Championship Match, which was a remarkable rematch of a March 2008 EQC Championship Match at Cascade Bowl (now Hooters Bowl). Both 2008 & Sunday's Final Matches pitted good friends Mholee Divina and Samson Ibale against each other. They also bowl on a team together Tuesdays at Hooters Bowl. In 2008, the match came down to the 10th frame, where Mholee needed to spare for the win. A 'Big 4' split derailed that effort and he absorbed the loss by 9 pins. Sunday at Narrows, in an 'Instant Replay' of 2008, Mholee's bad luck continued with another crushing split in the 10th frame, creating another 9 pin margin of victory for Samson. With Halloween coming-up, I think the correct word would be SPOOKY! That wasn't Samson's only close call in the Bracket Finals. In his semi-final match, he squeezed out a narrow 218 to 216 win over Jon Schneider. Samson's 2nd Victory in 2010, comes with another twist... his last 3 Titles dating back to 2009, have ALL been at Narrows Plaza. I think he likes that House! This Victory edges Samson into 3rd Place in the Bowler of the Year standings, moving him past (you'll never guess)... Mholee! Samson is an original 2002 Tour Member (#11), who was inducted into the Tour's Hall-of-Fame in 2010. The $1,782.00 for this win, pushes his amazing Career Earnings to $31,541.00. CONGRATULATIONS Samson on your record 10th Career win!
Mholee Divina was cruising through his matches, with no close calls until the Final Match. He was looking for his first win in over 3 years, though he's had a number of Top 5 finishes in that time frame. He takes home $818.00 for this 2nd Place finish. Tied for 3rd Place was Jerry Bleckov, making a nice run for his first Title. He ended up with his second 3rd this year and earned a healthy $362.00 for his effort. Jon Schneider shared 3rd Place, and in addition to his $362.00, he also enhanced his winnings with an extra $90 from the Scratch Pot, and $50 from the Jackpot Consolation. |
