WHAT A HORSE RACE: They're all in the gate... the flag is up... and there they go! Out of a field of 156 Thoroughbreds, John Bustamente bursts out of the starting gate with FIVE No-Taps to start his first game, in the first squad. We're thinking that the Jackpot is gonna get trampled at Narrows Plaza again, since it's such a historically hot track. But, the 5 No-Taps holds-up for a $250 Jackpot Consolation payoff for Bustamente and he also has the lead through the 1st turn (end of 1st squad), with a solid 813. But wait, here comes a new 'Stud' onto the track... Jason Parker is FLYING past everyone, gaining the lead at the halfway point with big 822. That score looks pretty good, until a 'Filly' comes out of nowhere to take the lead. A "Maiden" (never won a race) Kathy Bleckov shows all those stallions who's really in charge with an 832 heading into the Home Stretch. But wait... Closing the gap on the Final Turn is a whole pack of Thoroughbreds who ALL have put themselves in position to win it... Fisher, Nissen, Brown, Henkel, Hufford and Oriza all had great runs topping 800 and except for getting off-stride for just a second, each could have pulled this race out. Out of that final pack comes another Maiden Filly Dorrie Quirante, with her eye on the finish line, running stride for stride with a 9-Tap Tour Hall-of-Famer Samson Ibale. It's nose-to-nose, it's Bleckov, it's Quirante, it's Ibale, down the stretch they come, side-by-side. Who's got enough finishing kick to get thier nose out in front?? ONLY ONE PIN separates each of them as they cross the line, 833-832-831!
Pulling it out by that tiny ONE PIN margin is Tour Hall of Famer Samson Ibale, taking his 1st Tour Title of 2010. Samson is one of the original Tour Members (Member #11) from 2002. This win pushes his total wins to a Tour Record 9th Career Championship. His 833 was worth a healthy $1,994.00 and it also sets-up another horse race... Samson and Tong Nguyen are now both very close to being the first Tour Members to Top $30,000.00 in career earnings. Samson now sits at $28,501.00 for his career, while Tong is just slightly ahead of him. The last time Samson won a Tour Title was last summer, also at Narrows Plaza Bowl. As if that wasn't enough, just hours earlier, we announced a new offer from our sponsor HAMMER, that any Member winning a Tournament using a HAMMER ball, would be presented with a NEW Hammer Ball. Guess what Samson has used for ALL NINE of his Tour wins? A Hammer ball that was drilled for him way back, by Ed Dolfey. So, we're finally getting Samson fitted for a new ball. I hope this ball has another 9 wins in it! Samson asked us to thank his friends and bowling partners Rollie and Maribel Abella for their support. Rollie won his first TWO Tour Titles in "Best 3 of 4" formats, so Samson borrowed his towel for good luck. Maybe Rollie can sell lucky towels at the next '3 of 4' Tournament. CONGRATULATIONS Samson on win #9!!!
Coming up just ONE pin short of her first Tour Title was Kathy Bleckov who joined the Tour in January. Her fantastic 832 was good for $550.00 in 2nd place money. But, she wasn't in the Progressive Pot, so the additional $358.00 she would have won, carries over to next week, pushing the Pot to a HUGE $2,344.00, for Skyway. In 3rd place, was the other Filly in this race, Dorrie Quirante, who came up just short for the 3rd time in the last 12 months. Dorrie has also come close with two 2nd place finishes, but none any closer than this one. She collects a nice $489.00 for a great effort. |
