With the nicest weather of the year on Saturday, the weekend got off to a slow start. But, Sunday's numbers pushed us back toward more normal totals. In the end, 28 Members qualified for the Sunday Finals. In the last two Tournaments, we had one week of VERY low scoring, followed by a week of VERY high scores. This week at Narrows Plaza, the scores were "Just Right"! Cut scores of 962 Saturday and 946 on Sunday were right where they should be. A very reasonable Top Qualifying score of 1049 was turned in by Chris Pierce on Sunday, earning him the new Hammer "Jacked" bowling ball and a "Top Qualifier" Jacket. The $100 Bonus for the Top Saturday Qualifier went to Manny Avila, for his 1030 series. The Jackpot Consolation was shared by Barron Kuhn and Rey Alvarez for their 5 No-Taps. The 'Strange Story' of the weekend took place in the Finals, where there was a great mix of Tour Veterans with multiple Titles and 'Rookies' seeking their first Titles among the 28 Finalists. The strange part was when so many of the Tour's Top Winners ALL bowed out before we got down to the Head-to-Head matches, leaving only ONE multiple Title holder in the Final 16. No surprise then, when the Championship Match came down to two bowlers both looking for their 1st Win.
Our 1st Quarter EQC/MGD Champion is William Stinson Jr who's been a Tour Member for one year. When he first joined, he struggled for a while, but has steadily improved, culminating in a consistently STRONG showing this weekend. In the Ten games William threw on his way to the Title, he didn't throw a single bad game. Now that's getting in a nice groove. William and his wife Rhonda often bowl together on the Tour. The whole family is very sports oriented, with he and Rhonda also playing softball and both also do a great deal of coaching of youth sports that their kids participate in. When asked what he would do with his $1,806.00 winnings, he said he wants to put up a new Basketball Hoop for the kids. William took up bowling in 1999 and does all his league bowling at Pacific Lanes, which is also where Tour Member Eric Akioka drilled his Storm X-Factor that he used for his first win. He had a large support group cheering him on at Narrows.... Rhonda, Rochelle (sister-in-law), Stais & Orion (kids), Khalla & Keshawn (niece & nephew). William also wants to thank Jeff Scott for introducing him to the Tour. CONGRATULATIONS William on your first Title!
Jeff Kinnee took 2nd Place, shooting the BIGGEST game of his life in the Semi-Finals, when he started with the first 10 in-a-row. He took home a nice $900 check for his best finish on the Tour. In a 3rd Place tie, we had Sue Packman and LeFear Richardson, each winning $450. Both of them had been 'Blazing' their way through the Finals until they ran into some HOT competition in the Semi's.
NEXT WEEK: HiLine Lanes 12:00 - 2:30 - 5:00
