We made a small ONE FOOT addition to the oil pattern Saturday and the bowlers jumped all over it! We had some BIG scores shot in every squad, with ONE of the Top 4 finishers coming from each of the 4 squads. The Top 8 on the Cash List all shot scores high enough to win most Tournaments. The biggest score of the day came in the first squad, just managing to hang-on despite several assaults the rest of the day. One spectacular assault came from Cal Fisher, who started his 2nd game with the front ELEVEN real strikes (298), nearly completing the Tour's 7th sanctioned 300 game. An 'epidemic' of splits in his last game was all that kept him from unseating the Top Spot. Three Members (C.Bustamente-P.Marcello-R.DuCharme) each 'tapped' the 9-Tap Jackpot with the front four 9 counts, taking a total of $300 from the Consolation Bonus, leaving the record Pot at an amazing $7,390.00.
Christina Miller held on for her 2nd Career Championship, with her fantastic series of 1109. As huge as that score was, Christina was a nervous wreck as she watched bowler after bowler make a run at her score, in every squad. Christina had a fantastic 2009, finishing #5 on the Bowler of the Year standings (#1 Woman), despite a slump that began in November. That prolonged slump continued for eight months, during which she only had ONE Top 10 finish. The slump finally ended when she won her first career Title at Bowl Arena. Over the last 3 months, she's been on quite a Hot Streak, which has included 2 Wins and a 2nd Place finish. That's a GREAT example of the kind of perseverance Christina has demonstrated more than once. Her learning how to bowl on her 'wrong leg' five years ago, after a serious accident and numerous surgeries left her unable to finish on her left leg. That perseverance creates an incredible 'Cinderella Story' that was matched by our second place finisher's story (see below). Christina asked me to express her appreciation to all the Members who have been so encouraging and supportive of her over the years. And a special acknowlegement to her son Justin for his patience all-day. The $1,857.00 1st Place check, boosts her Career Earnings to $8,773.00. Great Job and CONGRATS Christina on win #2!!
There wasn't a Member in the building that wasn't excited to see Mark Andersson with his Best Ever finish in 2nd Place and his Best Ever series of 1095. Mark had a shot to win it ALL in the 2nd squad, falling only 14 pins short. Mark's perseverance is what has enabled him to fight back against his Parkinson's disease, earning him the level of respect he has from every Member of the Tour. Mark said that he's gonna do it again next week too. Closely bunched n 3rd, 4th & 5th Places, were Steve Shine 1075/$456.00, Vanessa Elley 1072/$250, David Hoekman 1071/$220.00. Each had shot at the Top, but Steve had the biggest final game boosting him to his narrow 3rd place finish.
5th Annual VETERAN'S DAY Tournament Nov. 13th: The Vet's Day Tournament is open to ALL of our Members, but we try to do something extra special to honor our Troops (past & present). This year we have more sponsors than we've had in past years and they are all adding money to our Special Side-Pot. (just for our Vets and Active Duty Members) It looks like this years Pot could Top $700.00 or $800.00, which will be a nice bonus payday for a bunch of Vets. If you know any Vets or Active Military, make sure they don't miss this one!! Make sure you get your GATE PASSES at Paradise next week. |
