The brand New lanes at Hooters Bowl continued to present a scoring challenge Saturday. Many bowlers commented that the shot was there, but they couldn't stay in the 'Zone' long enough for three big games. That was confirmed by the fact that there were lots of High Games shot, but few Big Series. The 'Bad News', was that if you missed your target, the conditions were unforgiving! The 'Good News', was that the lower than normal scores meant that ANYBODY that got on a Hot Streak for just a few games could win the Tournament. In the end, the overall scores were higher than our first visit to the newly remodeled Center. So, we know that we took a small step in the right direction with the lane set-up. We had 115 Entries, who enjoyed the nice atmosphere, good food and tight Competition. That translated to a Cash List of 23 Members, with a nice blend of Young & Old, Veterans & a few Rookies, and even a Husband & Wife, Rollie (3rd) & Maribel (9th) Abella. One Veteran Tour Member that made the List, which we're all excited to see, is the tenacious Mark Andersson, at 11th. Kenny Tameno and Bruce Gorr had just 3 No-Taps, but that was enough to share the Jackpot Consolation for $30 each.
Our Hooters Champion, Chris Pierce, wins his first Career Title. Chris first joined the Tour in 2004 and was a regular throughout 2005. After missing a few years, he returned to the Tour last June, doing very well since coming back with six Top 10 finishes and now he has a 1st. He and his wife Heidi are both avid bowlers bowling league at both Skyway and HiLine. After shooting a solid 795 in the 1st Squad, his score didn't get seriously challenged the rest of the day. Chris has been on a nice Hot Streak the last two weeks. Last week at HiLine, he also sat in 1st Place after the 1st squad, ultimately getting bumped down to 5th. That made it even tougher for him this week, waiting to see if his score held up. Chris started out slow, using his Throw-Out game right off the bat, then came back with two sweet games, but confessed that he did tighten up a little at the end of the final game. The ball he used Saturday, was actually purchased for Heidi, but when she decided on something else, Chris inherited the new Hy-Road. Pat Johns did the drilling for him at the HiLine Pro Shop. Chris also wanted to thank the guys he bowled with (Dex-John-Josh) for their support and encouragement and Heidi for letting him bowl Saturday. CONGRATULATIONS Chris on Win #1!!
In 2nd Place Riand Poblete made his last Tour appearance for a while, a memorable one! Riand is leaving for College in the Philippines, so it may be a quite a while before he gets to bowl again. His timely 772 was worth an extra $838.00 of pocket money. GOOD LUCK Riand! In 3rd Place, is the Tour's official "King of the Best 3 of 4" Rollie Abella. Rollie's TWO Career wins, both came at '3 of 4' Tournaments. He just missed 2nd by 3 pins (769) this time and takes $459.00 home for his efforts.
