WOW!!! What a weekend... records were falling all over the place. Most Finalists - Most Entries - Largest Total Payout (not incl. jackpot). It's also our 5th straight singles Tournament to pay over $2,000.00 for 1st Place. The challenging lane conditions actually helped make qualifying very competitive. The scores stayed low all weekend, so even after a bad game, bowlers were still within reach of the qualifying scores. It only took 877 to qualify on Saturday and 888 on Sunday. It was a great learning experience for us also. We now have a better idea how we can set-up the lanes the next time we visit Hooters Bowl. There was also an unusual contradiction on the Cash List. 14 of the 35 Finalists were higher average bowlers, with 9 pins of handicap or less (5 had negative handicap), but in the Finals, the lower average bowlers 'Ruled'. Curt Sanborn took a $100 Consolation Bonus for his 5 No-Taps, thanks to John "No-Tap" Nissen. John decided not to get into the Jackpot, claiming that he hasn't had a string of No-Taps in quite a while. Sure enough... he immediately went out and strung SIX on Sunday, which would have been worth a quick $250, had he been in the Pot! Earl Kleist's 1002 took the $100 Saturday Top Qualifier Bonus, but Alex Jazbec topped him on Sunday with a 1014 to win the new Hammer Ball and Top Qualifier Jacket.
Our HOOTERS/MILLER-LITE Champion is young Alex Jezbec. By winning his 1st Career Title, Alex also became our youngest winner ever. The High Schooler (USBC waiver) joined the Tour last June, bowling with his Mom (Lisa Ohm) who also won her first Tour Title last year. Alex bowls in the Monday Adult League at Hooters Bowl, with family and friends (Lisa-Rob-Kathy-Bruce). All that experience on Hooters new lanes, must have contributed to his being on such a 'Hot Streak' all day! As we've seen with other Members who get into that "Zone", Alex didn't even need all that Handicap, winning most of his matches Scratch. His close call came in the 2nd Round when he narrowly made it through, by a mere TWO pins. 9th Place was his previous best finish, coming in his last entry at the December EQC. This is only the second time a Top Qualifier, in a Two-Day, has continued on to win the Tournament. The weekend's best storyline came in the Semi-Finals, when Alex faced David Kim. David has been helping Alex with his bowling and has had a lot to do with his rapid improvement. As David put it, "Grasshopper sure showed the Master"! When Alex was asked what he'd do with his $2,112.00 in winnings, he not surprisingly said that he'd buy parts for the car he's working on. His winning ball was a Brunswick Zone drilled by Cory at Secoma Lanes. CONGRATULATIONS Alex on Win #1!!
In 2nd Place, Matt Plemmons came close to his first win, with a tight Final Match that came down to the 10th frame, before being decided. He settles for a healthy $965.00, in his best Tour finish. The Final Four bowlers decided to have a 3rd place tie decided by the Semi-Final scores. Mholee Divina won the tiebreaker taking the 3rd place Pro Pot money, giving him a sweet $507.00 for 3rd Place. David 'the Master' Kim earned the $325.00 4th Place share.
