9-Tap Tour Tournament Results
Bowlero Lanes - Lakewood, Wa December 5, 2010
Total Paid Out: $10,329.00

Great story lines and even better competitions were plentiful over the weekend at Bowlero. The 163 entries were the BIGGEST turnout since August, producing an extra large Finals with 33 Members competing. The $10,329.00 paid-out Sunday, pushed the Tour's year-to-date total to a new record of $298,780.00, with the Year-End Championship still to come. The addition of the $1,000.00 Bonus level to the 9-Tap Jackpot created so much enthusiasm, we will bring it back to help kick-off 2011 with a bang! The Jackpot managed to withstand this weekends onslaught, with Wes Puishis' 5-Taps holding up for $250 in Consolation money. There were a number of Members experiencing the Finals for the first time, and the unique competition that comes with this format. In the Finals, a nice mix of young (teenagers), older (12 seniors) and ladies (5) made for a group that was almost as diverse as the handicaps. which ranged from the extremes of +68 to -19. Frankly, all the diversity is just what the 9-Tap Tour is all about!

Our MGD OPEN Champion Rob Richards is an excellent example of how our attitudes impact us. The best coaches I ever played for, regardless of the sport, constantly hammered home phrases like, "Attitude is Everything". Rob was a little disappointed Saturday after getting 'nosed-out' of qualifying by ONE-PIN in the 2nd squad, along with some confusion that was my fault. Rather than letting that disappointment get the best of him, which would have been easy, he came back on Sunday to try again. This sounds like a fairy tale, but believe it or not, he managed to capture the last Sunday qualifying spot by ONE-PIN! Then he made the best of it, by running the table in the Finals, with a steady performance good for a $1,952.00 payday. But, this wasn't the first time that Rob has experienced this 'fairy tale'. This was Rob's 2nd career title... back in 2004, also at Bowlero Lanes, Rob also came up a little short on Saturday, also came back on Sunday, also got the last qualifying spot by ONE-PIN and then ran the table in the Finals. Guess lightning can strike twice in the same place!?! Rob is a veteran Life Member who joined the Tour in 2002 and was the first of six Members who have thrown a Natural 300 during a Tour event. He used his Storm 'Reign of Fire', drilled by (Tour sponsor) Corey Gardner at Secoma Lanes, for this win. Rob said he owed part of the credit for his coming back on Sunday to the encouragement of his girlfriend, Heidi. He said he was looking forward to using some of the winnings for Christmas shopping.

In 2nd Place, thanks to a Finals run of 5 straight games of 244 or higher, was Chuck Hufford, who was also seeking his 2nd Career Title. Chuck rarely gets into the Progressive Pot, but Saturday he mistakenly wrote his check for more than he needed and told Margie to go ahead and put it in the Pot. That error was worth an extra $299 of his $899.00 total winnings. LeFear Richardson was looking for his first win, but had to settle for his second 3rd place finish in the last 3 weeks. The $395.00 for this one, pushed his 2010 earnings to over $4,000.00. Also tied for 3rd Place was Paul Marcello, who shot some huge games in the Finals, but got nipped in his 'Final 4' match by Rob Richards 258 to 253. Tommy Henkel nearly held on to the high qualifying score from the 1st squad on Saturday, until the last squad, when Duane MacDonald nosed him out by THREE-PINS to take home the HAMMER "Plague" and the "Top Qualifier" jacket, with a sweet 1067.
