Champion Dax
|
For the third straight Tournament we had 130 or more Entries. The $8,359.00 paid out, was the largest for a One-Day Tournament so far this year. We not only had another 1st time Champion Saturday, but also a large number of Members who 'cashed' for the first time ever, or the first time this year. We haven't yet hit the halfway point of the year and we've already had an impressive 181 different Members who have Cashed in 2009! This week the scores were a little lower than normal with only ONE bowler cracking the 800 mark and a 'cut' of only 722. Many of the 26 who Cashed were so tightly bunched, that just one mark made a BIG difference in the final order of finish. Just 7-pins separated the Top 3 finishers and only 4-pins separated 4th to 8th places. Again, ALL levels of bowlers shared a well balanced Cash List: 9 with 9 or less pins handicap, 9 with 10 to 20 pins, 7 with 30 or more pins.
Our Sun Villa Champion, and 1st time winner, is Dax Colwell. Apparently, Dax likes to keep it REALLY CLOSE. He's narrowly missed winning, with TWO 2nd place finishes (one by 8 pins), since January. His 801 series this week, couldn't have made it much closer, ending with a TWO PIN margin of Victory. Dax won on a re-entry, after struggling through most of his first entry, his last game was good enough to give him some hope. So, on his second try he discovered that famous "ZONE" we often talk about. He's heard about "The Zone" so many times, that when he was asked what he attributed his Turn-Around to, he simply answered, "That INFAMOUS ZONE"! Same ball, same line, same bowler, nothing changed, except he just got locked in. Dax said he had been looking forward to returning to his old hometown of Bellevue, for this Tournament. He used his HAMMER "Black-Widow Bite" drilled by Pete at West Seattle Bowl, for the win. He wasn't sure of his plans for the SWEET $2,283.00 payday, but he was certain that some would go toward paying some bills. Dax has been a Painting Contractor for the last 8 years (need a painter?). His personal comment was that he now believes that, "Anyone can Win at anytime." CONGRATS Dax on Win #1!
Rollie Abella is the KING of the "Best 3 of 4" format. He missed winning this one by only 2-pins, which would have been his 3rd career win. His previous two wins also came in Tournaments with this same format. A HUGE 2nd place check of $1,013.00, should soothe the hurt a little. Also very close, in 3rd place, on a nice Hot Streak, was Chris Pierce, with a 794, good enough for $567.00. We also had the current "King of the 9-Taps" Roland Jarata, who won $5,613.00 from the Jackpot last March, take this week's Consolation Bonus, though only $100 this time.
NEXT WEEK at Roxbury Lanes: ALL New Members joining the Tour, will get one FREE Doubles Entry ($30 value). There will be plenty of Members looking for partners, if you don't have a Doubles partner, since this is a Multi-Cash format. You can bowl with more than one partner at the same time, if you're feeling Hot. We also will have a special DAD'S DAY POT, that we will kick-in $100 to start the High Game Pot, for Dad's Only. More details to come during the week.
