TOURNAMENT STORY |
The WORLD was treated to a week that inspired SENIORS everywhere! Tuesday, a 71 year old pitches in front of a packed Yankee Stadium, and a national TV audience, for the Home Run Derby. His hitter (Josh Hamilton) shattered the Home Run record, helping Seniors everywhere to believe... Greg Norman came close to becoming the oldest to ever win a Major Golf Title at the British Open... An inspired 75 year old of our own, Leon Bemis, doesn't just win the Travel Tournament, he also won a new ball at Majestic for being the Top Qualifier, then he THROWS A 300 GAME IN THE FINAL MATCH, with 11 natural strikes to win the Title. But, that's not enough... he does it with a new Precision Pro Shop ball, so he also takes home the $500 Bonus! Now that's what I call winning with style!!
Leon is a Life Member and has been with the 9-Tap Tour since 2002. This is his 1st Title this year and his 3rd Championship overall with the Tour. Leon takes home a total of $2,000.00, along with his new Storm "Street Rod". His winning ball was a Storm "Attitude Split", drilled by Dave at the Bowlero Precision Pro Shop. Leon generally bowls in 5 or 6 leagues during the season, in addition to his serving on the South Sound Board of Directors and of course most weekends as a "Floor Director" with the Tour. Somehow he also squeezes some golf into that schedule. Leon asked us to thank Rollie, Edgar and John for their support and encouragement Sunday and also he wanted to express his appreciation to all the Tour members. The Tour thanks Norm and the whole Precision Pro Shop Staff for their sponsorship of this event.
Gary Greene may not have won the Final match, but he impressed all those present, by finishing with the final 9 strikes to keep the pressure on Leon throughout the last game. His final match with Leon ended up 286 (267) to 309 (300). Gary took home $870.00 for his 2nd place finish. In a tie for 3rd place Brian Clark and Tong Nguyen split the Progressive Pot money winning $330.00 each. Leon wasn't the only finalist in their 70's, Janae O'Nail made it into the third round, before settling for a 9th place tie. There were many side stories during the week, but none better than Kim Forrest getting 11 9-Tap Strikes in a row... frames 2-12. That Jackpot now jumps to $5,514.00 for next week.
