THANKS to all that made an effort to check in early, and a nice job by the Skyway staff, we stayed on schedule all day! Next week at Tower Lanes (Best 3 out of 4), it will be even more important to check-in early... it's gonna be another BIG one! For the 8 singles events this year, we're averaging an awesome 113 entries per Tournament and Tower should exceed that. It's also the last chance to get eligible for the EQC Championship, coming in two weeks.
At Skyway, the Top 3 were separated by only 8 pins. Our streak of 10 straight 1st time Champions comes to an end. The Skyway Champ, with his 2nd ever Tour victory, is the 'one & only' Jon Schneider. Jon is proof that you can NEVER predict when you will get 'hot'! Jon said that he didn't have a very good week, skipping his league bowling, didn't practice all week, didn't feel well and in bed for 3 days, lots of stress and not feeling any 'mojo'. So, he thought he'd save a few bucks and not get into the Progressive Pot. Jon is a 'Life Member' who has more experience with the Tour than anyone, but in this case... he guessed wrong. Jon shot his most consistent 4 games EVER, for an excellent 1077. He said that he sure can use the $1,000 first place check, but he left the other $1,135 from the Pro Pot "On the Table". Had Jon been in the Pot, that would have produced our 3rd straight $2,000+ winner. The by-product, is a Progressive Pot that jumps back up to a rare level , at $3,212, meaning next weeks winner could take home over $2,600.00. Jon used an old Columbia Messenger, drilled by Pat Johns at HiLine Lane. Jon said, that Paul Padilla and Pat recently re-drilled his equipment and also made some changes to his game, that have made bowling 'fun' again. Congatulations Jon on your 2nd Title!
Right behind Jon, and also shooting in the same 2:00 squad, was runner-up Nelson Apostol. Nelson couldn't have shot any better in his final game, coming through with a "Clutch" 300 game and a fine 1071, for a nice 2nd place payday of $954.00. Only 2 pins behind, in 3rd place, was Tour "Rookie" Ramon DelFierro, with a 1069, good for $389.00. Robert Grinds III came close to being the 4th person this year (last year 0) to hit the 9-Tap Jackpot with his first 6 Taps and getting a real strike on the 7th shot. He had to settle for a $100 consolation.
Next week: Tower Lanes "Throw-Out Your Worst Game" 12:00 - 2:00 oil 4:30 - 6:30 (change)
