Last January at Paradise, we had an unbelievable 22 members crack 1000 for 4 games and we said we needed to make the shot a little tougher the next time back. So, we shortened the shot a bit more, wanting to get down to a more normal 5 or 6 over 1000. Instead, the numbers SKYROCKETED to 37 members shooting over 1000. We've never seen anything like it!! Our conclusion... The new plastic laminate covering, that was applied to the lanes last year, presents a unique set of conditions, that will require us to make completely different adjustments! Obviously, the set-up was well suited to both No-Tap scoring and our 9-Tap bowlers, with both high average and lower average members shooting incredibly well. We had FOUR of the Top 9 finishers with 36 or more pins of handicap & FIVE of the Top 9 with 6 pins handicap or less. Even the $50 Mystery Score Bonus had an unusual result. After no one in the entire 1st squad shot the Mystery Score, 4 members ALL shot the score in the 1st game of the 2nd squad, so we paid all four $20 (Len Bazzar, Mick O'Connor, Scott Stansbery & Jennifer Berys).
Our Paradise Superscoring CHAMPION is Denita Searles. Denita is fairly new to the Tour, winning on her (lucky) seventh Tournament entry. In her first six entries with the Tour, she shot very consistantly, in a narrow range, at or near her average. Then Sunday, Denita got in that famous 'groove' and exploded with an 1137. For the SIXTH Tournament out of the last seven, 1st place takes home over $2,000, with a sweet $2,222.00. Denita says that 2 is now her new lucky number. She has been bowling for 25 years, currently shooting in two leagues at Pacific Lanes, with a 169 average. Two of our sponsors will appreciate that Denita won with her Hammer ball and Norm Giannusa at Precision Pro Shops certainly set it up just right for her. Denita had lots of friends supporting her Sunday, with niece Jennifer Berys, Jeff Berys and Frank Waga all rooting her on. She also wants to thank Leon Bemis for encouraging her to join the Tour. Great Job and Congratulations Denita!
Jonathan Stotz shot what would have been a winning score almost any other time, a great 1112, good for 2nd place and $744.00. Jessica Wy came in 3rd place with her 3rd Top 10 finish of the year, good for $524.00. Gary King came CLOSE to being the 4th member this year to take down the Jackpot, getting the first SIX 9-Taps. The 7th would have paid him $1,616, but he settled for the $100 Consolation Bonus.
Next week: HiLine Lanes in Burien 12:00 - 2:30 & 5:00
Progressive Pot - $2,073.00
9-Tap Jackpot - $2,264.00
