TOURNAMENT STORY |
Lots of different activities and lots of sunshine, led to a lighter than usual turnout this weekend. But those that made it, had lots of positive feedback regarding the changes at Narrows Plaza. The scores confirmed that enthusiasm.
The Seniors are REALLY on a roll! Our 60+ members have taken 5 of the last 6 Tournaments and if you throw-in a 50+ bowler, that's 6 straight. Last year the ladies had a similar run. One senior on a BIG roll is Del Wiggins, who was the Top Qualifier for this weekends finals. Del swept the $200 Bonus, the "Black-Widow Bite" and the 9-Tap Tour Jacket. That's the 2nd new ball Del has won in the last three weeks, and he also won $500 from the Jackpot just last week.
Our Miller-Lite/Venture Bank Classic Champion is John Nissen. John becomes only the 2nd member to win twice this year and it's also his 2nd career title. Pat Johns drilled the Hammer "Black-Widow Bite" (John won it, as the Top Qualifier at HiLine Lanes), to win this week. Normally, John seldom misses a Tournament, but this weekend he was attending a Class Reunion in Morton. On Saturday he managed to get away earlier than expected and made it, just in time, for the 5:00 squad. Naturally he qualified for the Finals, and despite zero pins handicap, he tore through the Brackets on Sunday. In John's words, "I did want to dedicate this win to one of my best friends, Neil McAndrews, who passed away last month. I know this 2nd win would have made him proud, since he always pushed me to do well on the Tour." John also wanted to thank his wife Nancy for her love and support for 46 years. CONGRATULATIONS John on your 2nd Title!
Another member on a HOT streak (non-senior) is our 2nd place finisher, Shannon Peterson. She's had a nice run of cashes during that streak and had a "Highlight Reel" finish in the Quarterfinals. Shannon and Steven Wyatt (3rd) both struggled with splits the whole game, but Shannon had one last chance to win, if she could get all 3 strikes in the 10th. She got'em all to win by ONE PIN and take home $748.00. The other 3rd place finisher was Jeff DeBusk, with his best finish yet.
Final standings: 1st place John Nissen 1014 $1957, 2nd Shannon Peterson 1044 $748, 3rdT Steven Wyatt 996 $300, 3rdT Jeff DeBusk 987 $374, 5thT Del Wiggins 1069 $200, 5thT Ardie Budbill 1045 $200, 5thT Jon Schneider 1021 $200, 5thT Tong Nguyen 1002 $200, 9th-17th Kawika Kaea 1028 $100, Scott Leong 1015 $100, Scott Stansbery 1010 $100, Robert Grinds III 1002 $100, Tarajei Ali 1000 $100, Roy Conner 999 $100, Roy Akioka 988 $100, Michael Nucci 986 $100, Danny Nudelman 979 $100.
