TOURNAMENT STORY |
Who said lightning doesn't strike twice in the same place? IT JUST DID! Back in March, we had several Tournaments where the winners didn't get into the Progressive Pot, leading up to a Tournament at Tower Lanes. There was $3,212.00 in the Pot at Tower that day, for a "Best 3 of 4" Tournament, which produced a ONE DAY RECORD turnout of 144 entries. Guess what... we just had our 2nd straight Tournament with the winner not in the Pot, leaving $1,100.00 on the table, raising the Pot to a staggering $3,264.00, leading up to a "Best 3 of 4" Tournament at Tower Lanes. Talk about "Deja-Vu" all over again? Last March John Trausch took home $2,606.00 for that Tower win, next week the winner could Top $2,700.00.
What a fantastic way to kick-off the new Bowling Season. A GREAT Labor Day weekend turnout at Daffodil Bowl of 136 entries, produced 27 Finalists, with a low-pay of $100. Of the 27 members who cashed, 8 of them had 25 or more pins of handicap and 8 had 6 pins or less. But, by the time we pared the field down to the Final 2, it was 12 & 18 handicap members going for the title. Our thanks to Venture Bank for their support of the Tour.
Our Venture Bank Open Champion is Steven Wyatt, taking his 6th Title since joining the Tour in 2002. His last title came last October 2007 at Tower Lanes. Steven, who is a LIFE member, takes a nice $1,100.00 from the prize fund, but he typically doesn't get in the Progressive Pot. This time it would have paid an additional $1,100.00 and he's still excited about getting to use some of his winnings to get a new laptop. The Storm "Street Rod" that he used, is the one that he won from Precision Pro Shops, as the Top Qualifier at the Sun Villa stop, on this summers Travel Tournament. Our own Fred Mattson did the drilling at his Narrows Plaza Precision Pro Shop. Steven tried one of the PBA experience leagues this summer and he said that it's helped him with his adjustments. He also likes to play golf when he's not bowling or working at Sunrise Staffing in Fife. CONGRATULATIONS Steven!
Scott Leong took 2nd place for his best finish yet, taking home a sweet $990.00. Scott has traveled over the Cascades nearly every weekend from Ellensburg, to bowl with the Tour for the last year. Rody Sumandig had an unfortunate split in the 10th frame that put him out, settling for a share of 3rd and $410.00. Also in 3rd place was Donna Hayes, with her very first cash, good for $355.00. Donna's husband Ken also finished in 5th place and almost had to bowl against his wife. And even with Gary Woldt and Dee Prentice each collecting $100 from the 9-Tap Jackpot, for their FOUR 9-Taps, that Pot still grows to a nice $5,616.00.
NEXT WEEK: Tower Lanes - Saturday 12:00 & 2:00 re-oil 4:30 & 6:30.
IT'S GONNA BE A BIG ONE! |
