Wild & Wacky Saturday at Tower Lanes! Two big squads to start the day and we think we're on the way to cracking 100 entries, or breaking the one day record......then BOOM!!! The lights flicker at Tower and we soon learn that a propane explosion has Highway 16 closed and I-5 is a parking lot. Then, shortly after the flickering lights, Butch Moody throws the 1st six No-Tap Strikes to start his second game. On his 7th shot, with $4000 on the line, he puts the ball square in the pocket and BOOM, he blasts all 10 in the pit for a real strike. The 3rd time in the last few months that a member starts with the first 6 No-Taps, then gets a real strike on the 7th shot. That leaves a current RECORD $5144.00 in the Strike Pot for SOMEBODY to hit. But who will it be???
Our THANKS to those who were able to maneuver around the road closures to make the last squad, and our apologies to the many who were unable to get through. We would also like to THANK all of you for helping to make Fred and my first year with the Tour, so enjoyable and successful.
We still ended up with a solid 86 entries for the day, a GREAT positive energy from the competitors, and another spectacular finish. Steven Wyatt was the ONLY member to crack 800 with a super 803 series. But, Sue Packman went right down to the 10th frame of her last game, needing two strikes to take it away, only to settle for a close 2nd. Unfortunately, NONE of the Top 3 finishers were in the Progressive Pot for the maximum, leaving an extra $932 on the table. That BOOSTS the Pro Pot, for next week, to a current RECORD $2218.00, for a possible BIG PAYDAY for SOMEBODY to cash in on at HiLine Lanes.
Steven actually shot four solid games, tossing out his worst game, a 241. He would have won the Tournament even with a regular 4 game format. It was Steven's strong finish that pulled him into the lead, shooting a fantastic 560 over his last two games. He is our second winner in a row, that comes from the early days of the Tour and, like Char in our last event, this is also his 5th overall win, It comes one year after his last win, which was October 2006. $800 for the win is a nice payday and Steven said he's happy with it. But, by not being in the Pro Pot, he did miss on the $727 that would have been the winners share of the Pot. Steven shoots league with his mom Janae, at Paradise, on Saturday evening and had to scramble through the back roads to get there after all the road closures. He used his Columbia "Rival", drilled by Keith Boyd at Paradise, to win this one. Steven's support team of brother Jeff and mom, Janae, shot right alongside him during his winning performance. He also wanted to thank Fred for helping him with his game.
